Here I Go

Dec 09, 2009

So, after approximately 8 or so years thinking about WLS, and 20 or so years battling being larger than the average human, I have decided to do something drastic about it. I have been battling weight loss, diets, health foods, etc. for a long time now. I NEED HELP!

Thanks to my friend Lauren, who suggested this site to me, and for helping talk to me about WLS, and her experiences, I have decided to start exploring WLS as an option. Thanks also to my cousin, and the several other people that I know that have spoken to me also about the option of WLS.

My weight peaked around 2005 at about 420 pounds. That was also the time of my first knee surgery. I was an active 420 pounds, being a firefighter and a paramedic, things just got out of control. I started eating better, exercising more, and was able to lose 40 pounds inside of about a year. Then I moved to a place I loved, somewhere I was active, loved riding my bike, hiking, etc; Yellowstone National Park. Over the course of the next year and a half, I was down another 50 pounds, but wasnt able to lose more than that. I had plateued. But I was happy. During this time, I had my 2nd knee surgery.

Then I moved back to the east coast, and to a more stressful life. Despite working out on a regular basis, I gained weight, lost interest in many things, and became increasingly depressed. Back up to 359, and tetering on the 360 mark, again, Ive decided to make some changes. However, I still need help. In the course of 10 years, I have been diagnosed with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and have suffered two additional knee injuries that will ultimately require surgical repair.

So, now, with the diagnosed, and undiagnosed problems; as well as my impending loss of job because of my inability to maintain physical fitness standards, I am making the decision to research WLS options, and make some drastic changes. Wish me luck, im going to need it.
