Hello... my medical history is the following: endometriosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, acid reflux, anxiety, high cholesterol and the list seems to keep going. I am 33 years old and my family history has diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and high cholesterol.
Two years ago, my doctor recommended the LAP Band and I didn't have all of the conditions listed at that time. I refused instantly and didn't even think twice about it. As of Sept 2006 up until now, I have had issues of how I've felt. During that timeframe, I learned that I had diabetes and had to be put on medications; sleep apnea, I've had to use a CPAP machine; acid reflux, I was on medication for 6 months and my cholesterol has been elevated. I finally gave in and asked my doctor early 2008 about the LAP Band and she surprised me by saying that with all the conditions I've developed since 2 years ago, she felt that gastric bypass was the better option. I was mortified.
Just considering LAP Band was a difficult decision for me and I thought since it was less invasive that I would be ok with it but now she was saying gastric bypass!!! I knew it was definitely more extensive and it terrified me. I agreed to at least attend the informational meetings and think about it. I rushed home that night after work and did a lot of online research. Due to all the medical issues I have, it does seem to be the best choice for me.
I was very lucky and found this website and I think this is THE BEST website regarding obesity information and the people on this site are so supportive. It will make my journey much more easier than I thought.
