I guess I missed Month # 5..but here is # 6!

Dec 24, 2009

I DID IT!!!!!

Six months pre-op diet for insurance requirements, DONE DONE AND DONE!!!!!! Its was a great appt and my PCP was so proud of me for actually finishing! LOL In fact, she finished her notes and gave me of everything that I still needed to mail to the surgeons office. She is totally awesome and I dont care if that sounds silly. I am going to have my friend scan the notes and I am going to email them to the surgeon's insurance specialist by Monday next week. I think I will fax them just to be safe.

Only yuck is that she has put me on insulin..think the gall bladder is throwing everything out of whack. Which I am not even gonna sweat since that will bye bye come surgery time. So know I am on the way to getting word from the insurance company. Hoping for an easy process but I will fight fight fight if needed!

Merry Christmas OH!

A late Month # 4 and stuff

Nov 16, 2009

So my month 4/6 appt was actually back on 10/29. And lets say things have been CRAAAZZY since then! Due to my diabetes, my PCP usually has me do labs every 3-4 months. So a week before my October appt I go in for my labs. That Monday I get a call from my PCP..I had some irregular bloodwork and had to come in that day. Getting there, she tells me that my liver enzymes should be around 40 and my bloodwork came back at 240! Could be a lab error, could be something else. We redo labs, go to my obesity f/u on the 29th and it wasnt an error. I schedule an appt with a GI specialist and see him that following Monday. He asks me about 2000 questions and I get no answers. He schedules me for more bloodwork, an ultrasound, and endoscopy. Ultrasound did discover gallstones and an appearance of a healthy liver. Endoscopy shows small white pustules(sp?) and he puts me on 2 different antiacid meds. Also my PCP has switched my diabetes meds and put me on blood pressure meds. So now I am on 4 completely new meds, still adjusting, and no definitive answer on what is causing the increase in numbers!

On another note, I went to see my surgeon today and I am so ready and pumped up for surgery. The NP there thinks I have a great attitude and will do fabulous with my RNY. She really uplifted my spirits. I meet my surgeon for the first time and he seems like a great guy. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I would say 5 stars on the bedside manner. Their bariatric coordinator, Susan, is awesome as well. All in all, it was a great visit..except the damn $80 copay. I am really not liking Aetna. Or should I say my pocket book doesn't! LOL

So according to Susan my official weight for the insurance paperwork is 284.5. BMI is 43. She even told me at this point it doesn't matter if I lose more or not. She is hoping to get my on the operating table by the beginning of February! WOOT WOOT.

Two more months left on my 6 mnths. November appt is already scheduled for the 30th, and I am going to try and get my last one in before the holidays! I really feel like I am getting there and cant wait for the healthier Ree!

Month # 3

Sep 28, 2009

So I had my 3/6 appt today and I finally lost! 4 pounds to be exact. I wish it had been more but I will take it. I am down to 1 coke a day. In fact, I am even going some days without. So I guess things are on track. Just feels like forever...Im ready to go now! LOL probably not but it feels like it. So now its time to get ready for Halloween, my favorite holiday, and continue on the road to loserville!

BFF Problem

Sep 03, 2009

So one of my goals is stop drinking coke. Obviously I wont be able to drink it after surgery and its not good for my diabetes. Yes yes I know! But I have no problem admitting that I am completely addicted to it. My PCP and the bariatric docs all have told me that I need to ween myself from it or I will suffer huge withdrawal symptoms. And lord knows, this is so true.

This past sunday I made the decision that it was time to stop. I have an appt on 11/16 with my surgeon and I have decided the habit will be kicked by this date. So I stopped buying it for the house. I have cut my consumption by more than half. I have had no more than 20oz for the past week. I have dealt with a pretty crappy headache for the past few days but it will be worth it in the end.

And I am pretty proud of myself taking these steps. But, my BFF is being less than supportive. She has been really supportive of my decision to pursue the surgery and everything else, so i dont know why she is being like this. I put a post on my FB about not having coke in the house for a week and everyone is like great job! and she puts "Punishing your poor babies"! Okay so not having coke in the house means the kids arent drinking it either. Well they dont need to right? Its not good for them either and I figure if we go out for dinner they can drink it there..more like a treat than a norm. I just wish she wouldnt make comments like that.

Month # 2

Aug 28, 2009

So I went to my 2 of 6 appt today. And I have gained 2lbs...eeck!!! Will I get in trouble if I dont lose weight during the 6 months??? I set some new goals with my primary. Most of them focusing on kicking the coke habit and getting back to my exercising.

I was trying to get a walk in 4 times a week but the past couple of weeks have been chaos with the kids getting to school and such. Need to get back up on the horse and buckle down.

Good news is that I am definitely cleared for surgery and meet with my surgeon on 11/16 @ 10:15am. My goal is to have kicked the coke habit by this date.

Smacking myself upside the head

Aug 25, 2009

So I knew I shouldnt have made my #2 appt on the same day as the first day of school. Cuz what happened?? I missed it!!!!! Thank the stars I was able to reschedule from this friday at 2:15. I was afraid they would be booked until September and I would have to start my 6 months consective again!! so thank you thank you thank you primary care doctor for getting me in!!

On another note, looks like the surgeon has cleared me for surgery after my assessment and need to call to make the appt to meet him! I am so happy that I dont need anything else other than my 6 months. So I am on my way!!!

Appt # 2

Aug 11, 2009

Well bah, was supposed to have 2/6 appt today at 3:30 but primary had to be out of town. Got bumped all the way to the 25th. This is the kids first day of school and really did not want to accept the appt, but it was the only one left in August! And I didnt want to do anything to jeopardize my six months for the insurance.

Still scouring the internet. I am really loving the forums on this site. They have been invaluable so far. Making WLS "wish lists" of things I want that people have said were life savers. I figure if I start getting things now the cost will not seem so great.

First Steps

Aug 06, 2009

Well after considering WLS for about 5 years, Ive decided to really take the plunge this time. I had my wellness assessment yesterday at TGH and hope to be cleared for surgery. Its going to be a long road but its the journey not the destination, right?
