Three 1/2 years out from RNY

Apr 06, 2009

Well, it has been 3 1/2 years since my RNY was done.  To say that you still struggle from day to day is an understatement.  However, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.  My only regret is that I waited so long to do this for myself.  I do need to add an new picture of myself, because the one that you see is quite different.  Since my last post in 2008, I have had a Pannilectomy and that has changed my shape and even thinned out my face even more.  I haven't lost any more weight, in fact new medication has made me gain appro. 11 pounds in 3 months.  I have to take it, because one of my outlying problems was an enlarged heart.  It has shrunk back to shape some but has left me with Atrial Fib.  This condition cause a misfiring of the heart, so I have want a call a "skip-a-beat" or hiccup that medication helps with.  We tried atenol, but that caused my heart rate to drop into the 40s.  Not a good thing if you don't want to cause yourself to have a heartattack.  Never knew that before.  But in late Dec 08 I spent a few days in the hospital trying to get my rate back up and so my doctor switched me to a new one called Bystolic.  It has greatly helped with the hiccups in the heart beat, but it side affect is some weight gain.  So, I am back to a mostly protien deit to see if I can jump start my way back to 183 which is where my body seems to like to be.  I would love to go lower, but I am comfortable at 183.

Life is good, but I still have no one asking me out on dates.  That has been frustrating...but I think it may be my own fault at times.  I have a friend who told me that you have probably been hit on many times but don't know you have because the come on lines the guys are using are the same lines they used when you were just friends with guys and heavier.  So, last week I had a sleep test done and the guy was really hitting on me.  I felt very uncomfortable about this because he was monitoring the sleep study and the only other person there was a guy doing a sleep study as well.  I got through it and I must say I am beginning to listen better to what guys are really saying to me.  It is very confusing to me though.  I lived most of my life in this fat body that guys didn't see as attractive and I still to this day have a hard time thinking of myself as physically attractive.

Life is good and my sister and I are still taking hula lessons in Orlando.  We love it and oh my goodness the work out you get from it.  It is both cardio and strength training for me.  My arms have severe overhang of about 3 pounds on each side, so whenever we do moves that include moving the arms out and in and above the head, I am totally sore the next day.  Check out the website at www.hulaislife.com to see our teacher and some pictures!

Well, enough for now.  Gotta go and get ready for tonights hula lesson!  A Hui Hou! (that means until we meet again) - Lori
