What does an unassuming homeschool mom do for fun? How can an interest in a particular game show change your life? In Jan 2007, I took the online contestant exam for Jeopardy! I auditioned in person here in Houston in May. During the summer, while waiting for "the call" I married off my oldest daughter, had cancer surgery, and watched my mother-in-law become terminally ill. On November 1, Hollywood came calling and my husband and I hopped a plane to LA, less than one week after his mom passed away. The trip and experience was a dream come true. (Let's face it - just sitting in a make-up chair and having a professional work on you is pretty fun!) I enjoyed the "thrill of victory" as I was a one-day champion. Although I came back and lost the next day, there is no way that I could ever feel like a "loser". Disappointed maybe, but I have no complaints. My winnings have allowed me to help make a difference in the life of my family and in the life of others. What about me? One of my fellow contestants happened to be a surgeon who specialized in WLS. I have to believe that that was one of many seeds planted at the beginning of my journey. Winning was a huge confidence boost. Maybe if I can reach this goal, I can reach others? Maybe I can be a "loser" where it counts!  My show aired in March of 08 and in August I attended the hospital seminar with my husband. I've jumped through the usual hoops and now have surgery scheduled for Jan 7, 2009. I'm looking forward to good health, no more medicines, and the strength and energy to live each day to the fullest.
