Hello New Friends and Supports:

My Name is Renee. I am from Lethbridge, Alberta - born and raised.  I had a great childhood, and I was raised by two wonderful supportive parents. Yes, I have been overweight since I was seven years old. I struggled with a teacher that did not take patience or kindness for me, I had her as a teacher for grade one and two. After that I guess I sort of flowered into a fat kid.  No, I do not remeber what it was like to be thin, but I can hardly wait for the experience. I had gastric bypass surgery on October 16,2006. It has been almost two months since my surgery. My surgery weight was 275lbs. I have lost 45lbs since. I now way 230lbs.  I feel great.  I joined the gym, and it feels good to do at least a light work out.  I am not lifting weights, but I do a light cardio work out for now. I have had some struggles with the changes, such as eating habits.  Most days I am doing good, some days I feel like I am starving. When I have the starving days I sometimes eat a bit too much, and get sick.  I have also had struggles with sticking to the soft foods.  I did not investigate too much into what to expect afterwards.  I did have a friend that had the surgery done, so this was the extent of my research.  I am now at the point where I need to investigate my struggles and strengths with the surgery.  I am seeing a therapist, I have been seeing her since my intial consultation with Dr. Nohr. I recommend that all bariatric patients see one.  I found out that I was ADHD this year, and everything started to make since. I am a single mother of one child, I do have a boyfriend that has been a part of my for two years now.  He is very supportive of my decisions. I am also a college student, I am starting my second semester of a corrections degree.  I have accomplished a lot of goals in my life, and things are getting better everyday.  I not only want to heal my body, I also need to heal my mind.  There are a lot of exciting things that come along with weight loss, but a healthy body, mind, and soul are important as well. Cheers to all of you who have had the surgery and to those who are planning on having the surgery.  So far the short journey has been good, and I will take my time in enjoying the rest of the journey to a healthier life style. Thank you for reading my story.
