Hi, I'm 42 years old with a wife and 10 year old daughter. I'm 316 pounds at 6'.5'' This puts me at a BMI of 43. I'm a diabetic and have sleep apnea. My family has a history of weight related problems, my father died at 51 from complications of diabetes. I am just starting out on this journey but my goal is to loose weight and have a healthier life than my dad did. My motivation is my daughter
I want to see her do things that my dad didn't get to see me do. To say I'm scared of this surgery is putting it mildly but I'm confident everything will turn out ok. Things seem to just be falling into place. I have united Healthcare as an insurer and they seem to be realy good to work with. I have had the first meeting with the surgon and have scheduled all the preop test. For now it's just a wait and see.

Well I had surgery on June 25 and every thing went great. I wont pretend to say I felt great because this is major surgery, but all in all things went very well. I had my one week follow up with the surgen today and I have lost 13 lbs. The Dr didn't lie the more you move around the better you feel.  My surgen was Dr Gandsas at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. I can not say enough about the staff of this hospital. They are first rate and everyone made me feel as though I was their top priority.

I don't update often because I don't think anyone reads it.
But if you do here it goes. I have lost 70lbs since surgery. I'm only taking 10 units of insulin now and 5MG of actos.
My last A1c was 5.1 I am hoping to get off all the meds but we will see. I feel very lucky as my sugery has been very uneventful.
I occassionaly eat to fast or something doesn't sit well with my pouch but that is to be expected.
