"My surgeon was Dr. Goeffrey Thompson at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was a very personable
doctor and he and his staff were wonderful. He
answered all questions I had but didn't seem to
volunteer much information. He had gastric bypass
surgery himself just this past December. If I could
suggest any changes to him, they would be to inform
patients more about what to do before surgery-I had
to mention to them I was taking aspirin and only did
so because I know that it affects clotting. He leaves
aftercare to the endocrinologist that acts as a partner
on his team. A dietitian is also involved on an every
3 month basis for the first year. I will also be
involved with a behavioral modification group. I feel
that since he had this surgery, he is more sympathetic
to what his patients go through and that makes him a
better surgeon. Although I believe that surgical
competency is far more important than bedside manner
I feel lucky that he has both. I would definitely
recommend him to others. I feel that overall my
experience has been very positive."
