I started this process back in 2007, went through all my tests and after the money was taken and tests complete is when the doctors office informed me that my insurance was not going to cover the lap band procedure that i wanted to do, and asked if i would just rather have the RNY done. I declined because i did not have very much knowledge on this procedure. Went back to my family doctor and we started trying to lose / control my weight again on just medication.  Had outstanding progress with the medication dropping around 70 lbs in 8 months or so. No matter what, everytime i came off the medication the weight came back, with a little more with it.  2009 i started reading more and trying to find out if RNY was a route i was willing to take. After my research i am glad i did not do the band, I saw that the RNY would be my best choice for me personally. Early 2010 I started the process over again, went back to see the same surgeon, went through all the tests (and money) again.  During this whole process I was not liking how everything was being handled with this surgeons office and truly felt all they were worried about was collecting money.  Talked to people that had been through his office with this procedure and seemed like i was not getting any positive feedback. Talked to a few nurses in the hospital that has taken care of some of his patients and that made me fully decide to switch surgeons half way through the process.  He seemed to have a lot of complications and not only the complications but was told by mulitple people he did not like to fix anything he messed up.  I felt like i could have just sent the money and they would have passed me through the system until surgery.  Decided to start seeing a new surgeon and i believe it was the best choice i had made to date with this surgery.  He and his office staff have been absolutely wonderful,  He requires 10 times the effort on my part to even be considered for the surgery. Which in my eyes is a great thing, it shows he really cares for his patients well being. Had to start over with him with my weight and tests. Had a some issues with insurance and after appeal process i was approved on 12-30-10.  Surgery has been schedule for 1-31-11.  Can not be happier, and excited for what my life has in store.
