I had my surgery

May 12, 2012

I went back to my doctor on April 19th and I had lost down to 291 that was a total of 23 pounds I have lost since I had first met with him.  He wanted me to lose between 20 and 30 pounds so I was right in between that mark. And I had lost 15 while in weight management so I have lost 38 pounds since I have started my journey.  So I had my surgery on May 2nd.  I went into the hospital at 6:30 that morning and they prepped me for surgery and I signed all my papers.  I was so nervous.  I was actually more scared than anything and my husband tried to talk me out of it.  He kept telling me I could lose the weight on my own.  It took me over a year  to lose those 38 pounds so imagine how long it would take to lose 150 pounds.  So anyway I didnt chicken out.  I just did alot of praying and had others praying for me too.  God was there holding my hand the whole time.  My surgery started about 8:00.  The last thing I remember was scooting to the operating table and them putting the oxygen mask on me, usually they tell you to count backwards but they didnt for some reason.  And then waking up in pain about 2:00.  My surgery took longer because I was a revision from the lapband to the gastric bypass. I was sleeping on and off for most of the day and then I was up walking by that evening.  I went home the next afternoon.  It has been a week since surgery.  I havent lost any weight yet, some have said it could be fluid retention and I agree.  I made it to the pureed stage and next week I will be on soft foods.  So far I havent had any problems.  I can tell when Im full and if I overeat.  I havent done that but maybe once or twice and luckily I havent had any dumping issues.  I hope I dont either.  But Im sure I will at least once or twice.  I look forward to being able to eat regular foods again.  I know I have to eat 3 smalls meals a day and no snacking.  My doctor says 1000 calories a day, protein first and get in 70 grams of protein a day. Anyone have any suggestions let me know or anything I should do differently.  Thanks      Roxanna

Revision from Lapband to Gastric Bypass

Apr 03, 2012

I had the lapband done in Feb 2005 and lost 110 pounds and out of that I gained back about 65 pounds.  Over the past year I have been going to the Weight Management Center here in Chattanooga TN for the 6 month program and I lost about 15 pounds during that time.  After my 6 months were up I went to see Dr. Rutlege and he said due to my risk factors being higher than others he wanted me to lose 20 to 30 more pounds and also because of the revision from the lapband to the bypass. So now I have lost those extra pounds and have my surgery date for May 2nd 2012. I go back to see him on April 19th for a followup appt before my surgery.  Right now my weight is 292 pounds and I am very excited about my surgery.  I hope to make some new friends on here who have either been on this journey or are beginning their journey so we can do it together.
