The Journey Ahead

Oct 05, 2017

On October 2, 2017 I had my surgery, The Sleeve or VSG.  When I woke up, it was all over.  I was happy that the day had finally arrived and was quite anxious to begin this new transition in my life.  Three weeks prior to the surgery, was a challenge because I was placed on a restrictive diet, no pasta, no rice, no bread.  All of the above I love to eat.  It was so difficulty for me because each meal always consists of some kind of starch and lots of it.  After constantly nagging my nutrionist, I was given the opportunity to have mash potatoes and brown rice with my meals so I used every opportunity to eat them.  I am a tea drinker, green tea to be exact, and I always have a huge mug and two teaspoons of pure organic cane sugar which has a hue of light brown color on it.  Now, not being able to use that was a huge downer for me because I'm not very fond of any kind of sugar substitute; despise them all.  Just give me what's natural and I'm good.  However, I did use them in order to comply with my restricted diet.  But I did not drink as much tea as I did after that.  Two weeks prior to surgery, all the previledge of eating mash potatoes and brown rice was eliminated.  It became a real downer.  I was practically starving myself trying to follow the diet plan and so I reached out to one of the workers at the doctor's office.  She's was very supportive to me.  I text her all hours of the night and she did respond, if not the same night, the next day.  Moreover, she reached out to my nutrionist on my behalf, who in return called me.  And as she opened my eyes to the food groups and what proteins I should be concentrating on, I saw a little hope.  I week before the surgery, all starch and vegetables was eliminated, again it was a downer.  I was heading to Atlanta for my cousins wedding that weekend and the challenge was even greater because I was hungry and i wanted to eat any kind of fast food that came my way.  I did, however, flew with my protein shakes and yogurts in my luggage to help me behave, sorta-speak.  And I must say, I did fairly well.  During the wedding, however, I cheated on two appetizers and I did have a slice of that wedding cake.  I couldn't help myself.  After that, I did stick with my diet until my final meal at 11:50 PM on October 1st.  My surgery was a success.  I spent two nights in the hospital and was home by Wednesday evening.  Right now I am on a liquid diet, broth, cream soups, coconut water, applesauce, ice pops, yogurts and water for hydration.  By next week I should be able to drive my car and add more food to my diet.  I'm truly excited about the journey that lies ahead.  I'm already down 9 pounds and that was just from the diet.  My goal is to shed between 75-80 pounds of fat.  And I will do so by sticking with a healthy diet plan and excersing.  I also see myself in that beautiful dress I purchased.  When I get into it, I will post it as my after picture.  You're gonna see one sexy mama up in here.  LOL!!!!
