Gosh, it is 3 weeks out of surgery already!!
Jun 17, 2011
May 31st was my surgery date. Generally, I am feeling swell. Moving about the house, and doing light chores. I still won't lift anything over 15 pounds. Pureed foods don't taste very well, so I have been still using my protein shakes to get my needed nutritional supplements into the diet each day. I have tried such things as scrambled eggwhite/egg, very finely stewed lean meat, light string cheese, and pureed veggies--parsnip, rutabagas, turnips. They taste flat and not very seasoned. I am also finding the sugarfree jellos too sweet to taste. It seems like the foods I ate on preop diet are not palatable in my postoperative track. I do have the surgery "Metal aftertaste" and this also keeps me from eating too much of anything. I drink a daily multivitamin called ECO Friendly in berry or orange flavor. It is mixed with 16oz. cold water that is filtered or purified. I do find a half slice of dry whole grain toast a nice way to get some "crunch" into my diet. I also like 2T of the oyster crackers just to munch on. What I find is that I "THINK" about wanting to eat something, take 3 bites max, after fixing it, then decide "Not good!!" The rest stays in the fridge. Sometimes I try later to take some bites, but usually don't go there after the first try. It feels like a typical "Skinny Mentality" in relation to food, mealtimes, and even cooking. I have taken salt from my cooking schemes and then replace with herbs and other flavors--most things taste better. I also do not use cow's milk. I am finding unsweetened almond milk working very well for less calories overall, as is the soymilk in either light or unsweetened versions.
