I come from a family of women who had to struggle with their weight.  I went on my first "diet" as a Freshman in High School, loosing 10 pounds to get to 93#.  By the end of high school, I weighed about 120, and kids used to say I looked pregnant as I carried my weight all in my belly.  I got married at 21, and weighed 126 pounds (I am 5'6".  My husband used to nag me all the time about my "pouchy belly" and so dieting was constant.  After my son was born (I was 25) I was up to 143 pounds, and my husband really nagged.  At 30 it seemed like my metabolism just shut down, my marriage was in trouble, and I hit 200 pounds.  At age 32 my husband said he was divorcing me if I didn't loose weight, so you know what happened there.  I continued to struggle for the next 10 years as a single mom, lots of stress and depression, I would lose 20, gain 25.  At age 40, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and weighed 216 pounds.  I was able to loose 50 pounds over the next year and get my diabetes under control.  Over the next 2 years the weight crept back, I hit 230 pounds, and my blood sugars were out of control even using insulin and oral meds.(sugars of 395 were not unusual for me).  My PCP suggested I look into bariatric surgery to cure the diabetes.  I have had several freinds and co workers who had WLS, so I went to all of them and picked thier brains..  While they all had different experiences, they ALL said they would do it again in a minute, so I mad an appointment to see Dr Vitello.  My insurance approved me in 6 days due to co morbidities, I had my surgery 3 weeks later... No time to worry for long!

I am thrilled to have done this, my blood sugars were completely normal within the first month, and I feel and look better than I have in 15 years!  I know I was a "lightweight" (just love that term) but I truly feel that WLS has saved my life!
