10 Months Post-op

Oct 17, 2010

Hi, Its Oct 17th.....I reached my goal of under 200!  I was 196 this morning, I am very happy.  For whatever reason the loss is so gradual, the last 3 months I have lost 10 pounds.  But I am in a size 12 and can feel inches lost.  Its weird, and people tell me I look like I am about 160.  Anyway no complaints, I am living a relatively "normal" life now and actually feel like I am living!  I will continue to eat right, exercise, and maintain what I have been doing to lose even more.  I feel great, I take my vitamins religiously and do the best I can to eat healthy....it is not perfect but acceptable to me.  I love getting on this site and learn more info all the time.  Every once in a while I get severe heartburn very quickly, in the middle of the night when I am at work.  It comes and goes very quickly.  I may have a snack around 11pm at work, then nothing then it happens around 4am.  Oh well so far so good will not complain!  Talk again soon!  Hope all is well with everyone else......

The past couple weeks have been great!  I think I am getting close to my next goal of under 200!  I am 200.4 this morning!  I have been walking a lot, less snacking, counting calories and planning my meals more...........it really does pay off and you have to work at it!!  Very busy with kids starting school and football games...me and my husband are in charge of concession and it is keeping us very busy to say the least............no issues at all with the surgery, I just have to stay in charge, motivated, and remember that each day is a new day!!  Good Luck to all

7 months post-op

First, I went to see Brooks & Dunn "Last Rodeo" final tour concert last night and it was awesome! I love country music.....Also our family went on vacation to King's Dominion in VA and Washington DC last weekend and visited relatives, we had a great time also.  I feel great, and it is great to not be scared to walk far or get exhausted so easily, it is just a great feeling, I can't imagine what it will be like to lose another 20 or 30 pounds, we will see...

I also had my appt this week.  Weighed in at 205.  105 pounds lost!  I have been stuck around this weight for some time, like 6 weeks.  When my Dr. asked if I snack between meals I couldn't lie, I do....even though it is almost always fruit, cheese or nuts, its not a good habit, this is a tough one for me but I am living like I am normal now, I want this to be lifelong.  I am eating 500 % healthier than ever.  I exercise as much as possible, walk a lot, jog a little, and do floor exercises with weights.  I feel like if I can get under 200 pounds it will be amazing, I have already went past the 100 pounds lost which is unbelievable, I don't give myself enough credit for it but think about it, 100 pounds.....I am going to try very hard to not snack as much, increase protein and decrease the carbs.  Every pound is important, and I read someone's post today that its not about "skinny", it is so true, its a great feeling to look so much better but this process is much more than looks, it is emotional, and a challenge for life and we are so used to putting ourselves down every day for so many years, its easy to start hearing those words again.  Like they all say, the surgery is a TOOL, and it takes the work to succeed and maintain our weight loss.  I feel blessed to be given this opportunity to acheive my dreams, blessed to have no complications post-op and so happy not to be embarrassed to go to the doctors office.  I hadn't seen a Dr in 10 years because I hated the scale and avoided anything to do with my body.  Those days are over forever....

My B12 levels are still a little high, I can go to one SL per week.  I wonder how ususual that is for those levels to be high....I take 2 multivitamins a day, 3 calcium a day, and chewable iron daily.  My vitamin D level was low so I am to supplement with 2-3 a week now.  I also take biotin/omega 3-6-9/coQ10 supplements on my own.  My protein level came up a little and is normal but on the low end of normal......

6 1/2 months post-op

Jul 06, 2010

Hi, it is 7-7-2010 and about 6 1/2 months post-op...I will have my 6 months appt in a couple of weeks.  Just had BW done last week so interested to see how it is at the appt.  At my 3 month appt, all was pretty good, protein level was just a tiny bit low, Dr didn't even mention it.  My B12 levels were skyhigh, so I take a SL pill 3x/week now instead of every day, nothing else out of the ordinary.  I still take my vitamins religiously, in addition I choose to take Fish oil/Co-Q 10/Biotin supplements.  I started taking pills with no problems, the fish oil is a huge gel pill.  My weight is 207....a total lost of 103 pounds.  45 of it was pre-op.  I feel like my losing is very slow but it is steadily slow.  I am trying not to compare myself to others cause some of you lose it fast!   I do exercise as much as possible.  I love fresh fruit and it does not really fill me up so I am wondering if that could be slowing down the weight loss.  I am also snacking more than I should be, even though it is usually fruit, nuts, or cheese it is not a great thing to do.  I am in no way discouraged or disappointed, in fact I still get very encouraged by everyone elses stories and tips.  Life now is so much better everyday, my lifestyle and food choices are not anything like it was a year ago and I will never go back there.  I can eat pretty much anything, have never had the "dumping" they talk about.  Meats/bread/pasta fill me up very quick which is a good thing!  I love seafood/pistachios/fruit and salads.  I need to try to get more protein shakes in.  I have heard that a slow steady loss like is happening to me is the best way for it to happen but don't know for sure, we can't control how our body's react all the time..  as long as it is coming off even gradually is ok with me!  Thanks for all your stories and pics!  It is very helpful and very encouraging, I don't get on here often enough!

I am 2 1/2 months post Gastric Bypass

Mar 02, 2010

I had surgery on 12-17-09, 1 week before Christmas!  I am doing well and am just looking for friends to follow and talk to occasionally.  I was 310 pounds with a BMI of 49 last June, I lost 45 pounds before surgery.  I was 265 going into surgery and am 235 now, on 3-2-2010.  My BMI is now 37 and I am very happy with everything.  I had gastric bypass and my gallbladder out at the same time, and just stayed one night in the hospital and went home the next day!  I have been attending a support group meeting every month since surgery and find that others with the same problems is the best way to get information and support.  So add me as a friend, I am new to this site,  just joined today!  Sandy K
