Recovering

Mar 16, 2009

So I'm sitting here on pain killlers recovering from my 2nd abdominal surgery in 7 months!  I had to have my gall bladder taken out on 3-11-09.  Dr. Husted said he left it in because my abdominal cavity is small (full of fat?) and my liver was enlarged.  Well, I'd been taking my Actigall, but apparently it didn't help. I'd been getting some pains in my right side just under my ribcage with more frequency & intensity.  I mentioned it to Dr. Husted during my 6 month consult & he suggested I get an ultrasound.  Of course, there were gallstones.  Just my luck!  I had the surgery 4 days ago & am doing well.  The pain is NOTHING like recovering from my DS, so I'm "enjoying" my time away from work.  I went to a general surgeon who is excellent at taking out GBs & one of my bosses' assisted.  I felt much better knowing that he needed me to have an uneventful surgery if he wanted me back at work!  Dr. James, the general surgeon is the nicest lady ever!  She told me it was actually wise for Dr. Husted to leave in my GB as it was burried under my liver & very hard to get to as it was & she would have had to do it open if I weighed an additional 100lbs!  So, waiting was a good thing, so in retrospect, I'm glad he left it in as I didn't want open surgery.  As it is I have a 4 inch scar above my belly botton (Hess Method), 3 1 inch lap scars from my DS & now a 1 inch incision below my belly botton, & 3 1 inch incisions just under my rib cage (above my DS scars), I look like I'm sewn together!

I'm hoping I'm not bald by summer.
