At age 18, I went to my first Bariatric conference. I then decided after consultation and that conference that surgery just wasn't right for me. For the next 4 years I dieted, I had personal trainer upon personal trainer, my life changed and my weight only fluctuated down 30lbs and up 40lbs every single time. At age 21 I decided to look into RNY again, and this time jumped on board in Reno, Nevada. I kept up with he clinic and appointments for about 6 months then I gave in. I started training for a half marathon. Running up to 7 miles a day, TWICE a day. I was on cloud nine, I really COULD do this without surgery. But the weight lingered, going from 254 down to 228 and then back up to 236.

PCOS doesn't help in the area of weight loss or maintaining. It's the culprit of a 60 lb gain at age 17' (that and the fact I wasn't chosen for the cheer squad that year). In the middle of my training and weight loss on my own, I moved back to Florida from Nevada and sure enough life got busy, I let my training slip and the weight slapped itself back on. Going from236 to 250 in 9 months. Good thing this time I said enough is enough. I started in April again at age 23 with the Bariatric clinic in hopes that I was finally mentally ready for surgery. I finally admitted to myself that I needed help, and I shouldn't be ashamed to ask for it. Although I had previously done all the pre op testing in another state, many of them expired and I had to start the program as a newbie again. 3rd times the charm right?

On Christmas Eve, 2015 I got the best news of my life, my insurance approved my surgery! Sitting at a 39/40/41 BMI throughout this journey made me on the fence about approval. Some days I qualified, some I did not. No comorbidities disqualified me if I was under 40 BMI. Im estatic for this new chapter in my life to begin. On January 12, 2016 I will be having a new chance at a healthier life. One to really live for and take care of. No more PCOS, no more infertility, and no "pre-diabetic" labels on me now.

Good luck to each and everyone of you and I hope for nothing but the best in this crazy journey we are all on!
