My name is Sarah, I am 31, married to the love of my life Paul, and we currently reside in Stillwater, MN. I have been overweight my ENTIRE life. I have never known what it's like to be thin or skinny. On April 12th, 2011 I had the VSG done at the University of MN. This was a very difficult decision for me to make....even though I have always been overweight I wasn't sure I wanted to put my body through this and take the risks that go along with bariatric surgery. I currently work as a RN in a surgical ICU, I have seen bariatric surgery gone bad....the thought of putting myself in that position scared the hell out of me. However, after turning 30, and beating cancer, I had decided I have had enough of living this life as an overweight person. Beating cancer was a huge part of my decision...in September of 2008 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, one of the most curable forms of cancer you can get. I had no fear going through chemo and radiation that I was going to die...my doctors were all very optimistic as was I. But in the end I had a new outlook on life....That it's way too short and you never know when your time is up...so enjoy it. I had decided at that point that as a fat person, I was not enjoying my life....I want kids, I want to be active, run, exercise, and have fun! Not sit on the sidelines and in the shade. So here I am...post-op day 3, and happy as can be to start a new life.
