Well today is May 4th and I have not been on here in a while just been so busy what with work and then crocheting ponchos for my grandchildrens birthdays. I made 4 of them 2 for each of the girls. I am down60 lbs since surgery it has been a fairly steady loss of about 2 lbs a week. At first I was dissappointed but then I figured if I were to lose 2 a week for a year that would be 104 lbs in a year. Still have constipation problems and can not eat until later in the day. First meal of the day is the worst and I can not get that in until 12:30 1 pm in the afternoon. I manage to get 2 meals a day once in while 3 but not often. Seems I have to prime my stomach first.

Today is 3/13/07 One month later and I now weight 309 we seem to be right along. Still have trouble in being able to eat and do not really enjoy the food basically eat because I am supposed to. Stopped taking the iron pills and vitamins. Will start to work on getting the vitamins worked back in daily. But not the iron it constipated me so bad that we think I have done a little damage to the intensines I need to do stool tests now because last week I was so consitpated that it was like a rock just rolling around inside my rectum. I sure hope that never happens again it was so very painful. I had done everything to prevent it too. I took stool softeners fiber laxatives and Milk of magnesia daily since the last time I was consitpated a week ago and none of those helped even ate dried plums at least 16 of them. Well we will continue to focus on the weight loss and my future back surgery.

Tuesday 2/13/07 I weighted myself today and I am now at 321.0 The day of surgery I was 352.9 My highest weight was 380.9 last June So that means since surgery I have lost 32 lbs for a total of 60 lbs or to be exact 59.9 lbs.Next week I will start back at work. Finally the eating is getting better, I found out that while I was eating slow for me it was not slow enough nor was it chewed enough that is some thing I will continue to have to work on. I went to the support meeting last night and I will miss going to them in the future but maybe I can trade once in a while with some one and get to go to them. I am still down on taking my medications from what it used to be. I think I will keep a sheet of what I all had to take just for a reminder of where I started and where I am going health wise.

One of these days I will discover how every one here has nice postings in their account. But until then I will play around with this. I went to my baritric surgeon and my PCP this week. We are now going to drop my BP Medicines in 2 weeks as that is running low. My Dr wants me to take them for 2 more weeks in order to better protect the heart. So my medications have dropped from a total of 18 meds twice a day down to 2 meds a day Vitamins,a Iron pill and my pain medications So that is only 4 of them at this time. I may have other vitamins added later but even if they add one or two that is still a whole lot of meds I no longer take. I down in weight. I do not see the Bartric surgeon now for 6 months so I will be takeing my weight at home every Tuesday but the Great thing is that now I can use the digital scale for the first time in 4 years. I am finally down far enough for it. That is a nice feeling. Found a new protein drink at Walmart I am going to go back and see if they have it in other flavors.

***********************************************************************

I my story started in March 2006 when I went to a Neurosurgeon to see about having back surgery done. My back is really hurting alot and it is getting harder all the time to walk at all. I knew I was heading for a wheel chair as I already need a walker to walk any distances. In the house I can no longer stand long enough to stir anything that is cooking on the stove. I have to sit on a mechanics chair and scoot around the kitchen. When I went to the Neurosurgeon he said that my weight made me too much of a risk for surgery. The Doctor is one of the highest respected Doctors in the city. He said that while he personally did not believe in Baratric surgery in my case he would suggest that I look into that type of surgery because I was in a catch 22 position. I would not be able to loose enough weight to make surgery safe because I could not move enough to burn the calories. I was really disappointed. My PCP had been saying to me about this surgery for the past 1 1/2 or so but I did not want to hear it. I had several friends that had the surgery over the years. But I did not want it. I work for the hospital where I had my surgery done. One time I was there to see my Sleep Apnea Doctor and I ran into a friend that had been laid off and had came back to work about a year before. The last time I had run into her was when she was applying for a position with the hospital  in HR. I did not really know where she had ended up. Well she worked in the Baratric clinic at the hospital and was telling me all about it. I told her about my conversation with the Neurosurgeon about my back. Well she insisted I at least talk to the Doctor in the clinic and see if I would be a canaidate and give it some thought I did not have to have the surgery just talk to the Doctor. She would not let me off the hook. She booked me a appointment right then and there. I told her I wanted to have the Best doctor to talk to and that was the start of it. I came home and told my husband and then called my PCP and told her so that she could get a referral put through for me to see the Baratric Doctor. My appointment was for April of 2006 Just before I went for my first appointment I started two new medications and I had quit smoking in January which every time I quit smoking I gains 30 lbs right away. But unknown to me was the fact that the two new medications had a side effect that also made it so I could not have the surgery. The Dr was wonderful he was caring and informative to me and my husband. Each month that I went back I gained more weight and here I was trying to loose the weight. My Husband went with me and told the Dr. that I really was eating less and we could not understand how I could possibly be gaining weight. Well the Dr was ready to not do the surgery because one of the requirements is to work with them and lose weight before surgery. I was so frustrated that I went to see my regular PCP for a appetite suppressant well in discussing this with my PCP we discovered that the two new medications that I had started on had a side effect of weight gain and water retention. We took me off those pills and gave me the appetite suppressant and with in 3 weeks I lost 17 lbs. After that I lost weight every month until the last 3 weeks before surgery I then put on 8 lbs. My Top Weight was 380.9 lbs. This surgery is the first of 3 for me though because once the weight is off from this surgery then I will have my back surgery. Which hopefully will fix my back then once I heal from that surgery I will have my hernias in my abdomen repaired. Which will probably include take a lot of the excess skin from the abdomen off.  Now I will just use OH as my dairy and encourgement on my new journey to a small body and eventually a new working body back included. What is nice gift I will be giving myself. Through out all of this my Husband has been so wonderful and such a big supporter of everything. I know I could not have gotten this far with out his support.
