I started my WLS quest in March 2007.  This is so truly a final resort for me that I haven't had many doubts as to whether I'll be ok.

2 of my closest friends have had RNY Gastric Bypass and they're the first points of inspiration for me.  Not only do they look great, but they also have said repeatedly how GOOD they feel without the extra pounds!  So, I'm following in their footsteps and will soon have my surgery on Monday, September 10, 2007.

Dr. Hoehn is part of the Bariatric Center of Kansas City.  The Bariatric Center is a Center of Excellence and has strict guidelines to follow before surgery.  I have had to see a pulmonologist, cardiologist, and dietician.  I have also had to attend 2 classes:  one with the Bariatric Coordinator and one with a Physical Therapist.  And not only will I see my surgeon for the rest of my life, but I will also see a weight-loss psychologist for the rest of my life.    The last "hurdle" I had to clear was my EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy-- don't ask me to pronounce it!) and now all systems are go.  I really feel good about the level of support I will have as I go through my many changes and make my life better for now and for the rest of my life.

I was a "loser" in school because I was fat...what did the other kids know, anyway, right?... and now I will be a TRUE loser for the rest of my life!
