My story pretty much reads the same as everyone elses but there is a twist. I have been fighting my weight since I was 8 years old. I have a wicked sweet tooth that is at times hard to tame. I was not always a nutritious eater because convenience food was much easier to prepare and usually tasted better that what I would concoct. So after several years of doing every imaginable "diet" known to mankind, I did some research and learned about the Lap-Band. I had the Lap-Band surgery in May of 2008. Now at that date, I was at my all time highest weight of 285lbs. I am 5' 7" and being that heavy wasn't cool. I had great success with the band and I didn't have the typical side effects that most people go through until January 2008. That's when I had to have emergency surgery to have the band removed. That's my twist. I herniated my stomach so badly that my stomach was turning blue and basically dying from strangulation. I feel that it was not the band that caused the herniation but I didn't listen to my body telling me something was wrong a month before. I was stubborn and didn't want to go have an adjustment and stop my weight loss or god forbid gain a pound.
Now here it is 2 years post removal of my band and I am back again to have the gastric sleeve. Oh, did I mention that I lost 100lbs with the band? I have unfortunately in the past two years manage to gain 50lb of it back. I had been working through the failed diets for the past year and a half and once again no luck. I know that having this added tool will help me get back to my goal!
