I've decided it's finally time to start this thing up. I've been lurking around the OH site for a while now, and have even started posting! After looking at so many inspiring journals and blogs of other members' weight loss stories, I came to the conclusion that I need to start writing my own account of my WLS journey! Like so many others out there, I have had a life-long battle with my weight. I'm not sure people can ever understand what it's like to go through one's life on the outside. With the exception of a core group of friends, nobody really took notice to the person inside the chubby body. It's tough to understand that sort of life unless, that is, you've experienced the same thing. That's the reason I love this forum - our lives may be different, the details from our stories may be different, but we have all experienced, to some degree, the same challenges. After a lot of research and soul searching (and a 30th birthday in August), I decided to look into having weight loss surgery. A good friend of mine had RNY Gastric Bypass in July of 2006, and she referred me to her surgeon. I met with him, and instantly knew that this was what I needed to do! It wasn't an easy journey. There were unexpected problems with my insurance company and a few family members that were concerned about the surgery (and rightfully so). But I did it! I was finally in the OR on January 2nd, 2007. I do believe it was the best New Year's gift I could have ever received, and I haven't looked back since!
