"On October 16th, 2011, I came to Tijuana from Portland, Or to have Dr Huacuz remove most of my stomach via a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I was 21 years old and found myself weighing 360 pounds. I couldn’t dress well; I couldn’t participate in many of the activities my friends liked. I couldn’t even climb the stairs at home without getting winded. My surgery went smoothly, the doctors and nurses were friendly and eager to answer questions and my stay in Tijuana was as pleasant as it could be considering that I had major surgery.
Once I was home, I started the long process of re-learning what I could and could not eat. It wasn’t hard but I did find that there were a lot of foods that I had to give up (at least at first). It was worth it though! Now, almost a year later, I have lost 120 pounds. I have choices when it comes to what clothes I wear and what kind of activities I take part in. I don’t feel deprived because now I am able to lead the normal young adult life and even do things like go for a jog with my sisters. It was the best choice I have ever made!
