I have always been overweight. I do not know what it is like to be a normal person. I went through middle school and high school always being teased. My friends and family always told me how I handled it so well how I was "comfortable" in my skin and that was cool. But the joking and laughing and things that I did were just my form of denial. I was not happy! I mean who would be at 280lbs at 20 years old. So one night I was at my parents house having dinner and my Dad asked me if I'd ever concidered WLS. I had but thought that I could not afford it while I was going to school plus I was sure that my insurance would not pay for it. My Mom told me it wouldn't hurt to look into it. So I did. My insurace said if it were medically needed they would pay 90% my parents said they would help with the rest. So I called the bariatric clinic and asked them how I to get started. I needed to attend a seminar and get approval from my primary Dr. I did all of that and I met with Dr. Swannack on May 8th. We talked and he said I was a go! So May 29th, 2007 I had lap RNY. I am so excited to see what it feels like to be a "normal" person!
