I have struggled with my weight since high school.  I attended my first Weight Watchers meeting in my junior year.  Since then I have seen my weight continue to go up and down, but mostly up.  About 9 years ago I got married to my soulmate, and since we were both in our 30's, we tried to get pregnant right away.  After about 2 years I learned I had PCOS and Diabetes.  At that point we knew getting pregnant would be very difficult and risky, so we started the adoption process.  We now have a wonderful 3 1/2 year-old whom we wouldn't trade for the world!  The seriousness of my health problems related to weight hit home about a year ago when my endocrinologist said, "Don't make him an orphan again!"  (My husband is also extremely overweight and diabetic).  That's when we decided to get serious.  We started by working with a nutritionist to help us get our diabetes under control.  When that didn't work, and after many suggestions from different doctors, we decided to look into bariatric surgery.  We went to an information seminar at Shady Grove with Dr. Greene in February, and that solidified our decission.  We are now both working on completing the pre-op appointments, insurance approval and dieting.  We hope my husband can have his surgery this Spring or Summer and mine this Summer or Fall.
