Had my surgery yesterday

Jul 24, 2009

Yesterday at 10:30am, my new journey officially started! I was in surgery at 10:30am and was sent home by 12:30. I still can't believe how soon they were sending me home but that was fine by me. The surgery went by so fast and now I'm resting at home for a week. The most pain I'm in is from my port. They sent me home in a thick and sturdy band that velcrows around my stoamch. This is so took the port from flipping over. They want me wearing it during the day for awhile because I have a desk job and you tend to slouch over at your desk and if I slouch too much the port could flip over. The band actually is my new best friend. I slept in it last night and I can tell it makes a huge difference with pain.

I haven't eaten anything yet, mainly because 1) I'm not really hungry and 2) my fear sets in that it will make me throw up, which I know will eventually happen. My nurse said to mix things up and not drink only water. She said I'll lose all my electrolytes if I only drink water so I've been having Vitamin Water, which I love. She also suggested Gatorade but now I'm in the mindset of taking in too many calories with these type of drinks. But I know right now 1 day after surgery, I should just be focused on staying hydrated, no matter what the drink is.

I am *very* proud to say that I lost 9lbs during my pre-op 2 week liquid diet. Honestly, I didn't think I had lost one single pound. So because I lost a good amount, my doctor said it made the surgery  much easier because my liver had shrunken alot.  Now I am trying to see what I should be eating, I am still on a liquid diet. So if anyone has any suggestions on what they had 1 or 2 days after the surgery, I'm open to suggestions! Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am very excited to keep this updated!
