minor complications

Jul 16, 2008

People often ask about complications so I have added this here to my profile.  Nothing major just agrivating small issues......
I had acid burn in my throat, mouth and tongue.  It was soo bad it caused my eustation tubes to be aggrevated and fluid behind my ears.  I am six weeks out and it is almost gone but ears still really ring.  The acid could have been related to having my gallbladder removed (had Gallbladder out, vsg and hiatal hernia repair at the same time).  Having no gallbladder can cause bile acid to back up in the tummy.  This acid in the tummy causes the tummy to really grind and hurt especially when it was empty like late in the night.  I woke up constantly in the middle night with really major pains like hunger pains.  I also had to cut all acid preservatives out of my diet.  The liquid choices are FULL of acids as preservatives.  Check out what you take in citric acid and other acids are in everthing we take in until we can eat reall foods.  That was tough and limited my eating choices.  Also, I really struggled with staying hydrated.  At six weeks out I am still having a tough time getting in enough water.  It is physically easier but still not easy for me.  I felt like I had a golf ball in my chest.   I felt like I had vitamin deficiencies so I began taking suppliments as soon as I could figure out a way to get them down.  At first I broke them into chunks now I can sctually swallow them.  I take iron, calcium citrate, multi, potassium, and b-12.  I have to really watch sodium.  Really high sodium causes me feel faint and other weird side effects.  Mainly because sodium and potassium need to be in equilibrium.  If not, they cause weird side effect that include passing out, low blood pressure and many more side effects.  If I do not take the vitamins I am incredibly fatigued.  I also cannot tolerate sugar alcohols or any sugar alternative they cause blisters in my mouth, swollen throat and dumping.  I accidentally took in a protein drink one day with a forbiddden sugar alternative and it was terrible.  Many of these issues are trivial but can really make me feel yukky.  It was a delicate learning curve but totally worth it.  I am really happy with my sleeve and my decision for a healthier life.  It just takes time to adjust physically as well as mentally.

2 weeks out

I have had a few minor issues to get past, but I am transitioning very well.  I went to my allergist (he is a brilliant doctor) and he said I have acid burn in my mouth and throat.  This acid inflamation has caused my ears to stay really clogged and my eustation tubes are very aggrevated.  I am removing all acid preservatives from my intake. No more citric acid, asorbic acid, malic acid etc.  Hopefully better soon.

I am Sleeved!

Jun 06, 2008

I am back and Alive!  I am still a bit sore and having bad gas pains but doing well.  Walking lots, in fact, never sit down.  I have some terrible temporary sensations at night that are soo bad they make me weak and cringe.  I have a really high pain tolerance but they really hurt and I am not sure what to do about them.    I look like a deflated balloon.  The gallbladder was soo bad that for the past year I have been swollen and distended in the abdomen front and back.  Good news without the gallbladder I have completely lost that swelling.  Thanks for all of your help.

gallbladder removal

May 07, 2008

I currently have gallbladder dyskenesia, I will be having my gallbladder removed when I get VSG. Has any one experienced additional side effects from gallbladder removal?

A previous post...My VSG surgery date is scheduled soon and I am researching protein drinks, B-12, calcium, and a multi.  I am having trouble since I cannot tolerate any sugar alteratives including apartame, sucrolose, sorbitol, mannitol, etc.  Anyone have this issue?  I am worried my limitations will be a big road block for me.  Please share if you have experience with this.  Has anyone been able to tolerate viactiv calcium post op?  Or is it too much sugar?
