Its been awhile

Mar 31, 2009

Well it has been just over two years for me and 2008 seem like it was a blur.  I have had some issues with sever pain through my body which really has limited my activity level.  I was told I have fibromyalgia but I have also had a Lyme's test that has come back positive but it seems like the Dr's that I have been seeing don't seem to care let alone call you with the results.  Luckily my wife works for my family Dr. and that is the only way I have found out the results of that test.  The neurologist that I have been seeing since last year is useless and doesn't seem to have a clue on what my problems are because I have had numbness and tingling through my entire body along with the pain, so I was tested for multiple sclerosis and other neurological damage which came back negative.  I am having problems with my sugars dropping and I was having passing out spells as frequently as two to three times a week for the past eight months.  This caused me to lose my job and my license for several months.  Come to find out the neurologist never revoked my license like he said he was, but the good thing is I didn't have to fight to get it back and now I am driving when I feel capable.  I am doing on line schooling and utilizing my GI Bill since October at Phoenix University in order to get my degree finally and move forward in that aspect of my life.  I really feel as though this time at home has strengthened my relationships with my wife and daughter and it is like God is using me like glue to take care of things around the house.  I finally have however somewhat controlled the BS and took myself off a medicine the neurologist had me on and haven't passed out for five weeks now.  I saw a diabetic dietitian even though I am not diabetic to help with my diet.  Come to find out I was depriving myself of all the good things I didn't think I could eat because I just didn't think I was able to eat them due to the bypass surgery and the pouch supposedly being sensitive and the nutritionist before surgery educated me to thinking this way.  However, I have incorporated more fibrous foods into my diet and I have lost about ten more pounds.  I did go and see a plastic surgeon yesterday in order to discuss getting extra skin removed from around my belly and he said I was a good candidate so now it is a waiting game for the insurance.  They said it shouldn't take that long.  I was so excited when I walked out of there.  I can't help but to get my hopes up because I really need to get this skin removed in order to somewhat complete my steps.  I am a firm believer that this should be incorporated as part of the steps and procedure process for this surgery and I would love to advocate to insurance companies for this but I know I am only one person so I will just continue to pray for all of those who have had this surgery.

In October my wife Heather took the steps in her own journey in having this surgery and she is doing remarkably well.  I am so proud of her.  She has lost seventy-nine pounds and looks and feels great.  Now we both can check each other and she now knows what I have been through so this has made our relationship special.  It is so nice to see her be able to shop in the smaller women's section and feel tickled to death when she can get in the same size shirt as her sister.
