I met with Dr. Chu on 7/1/10.   This is the second go-round for me in the Kaiser bariatric world.  The first time I went through this process was in 2007 and I was an emotional mess.   It wasn't the right time for me to get this surgery but I didn't agree with that assessment at the time.  I look back now and realize they actually knew what they were doing.

Fast forward to 2010 where I weigh in at 423 pounds and have tried everything and can't seem to do it any longer.   Get the referral and get the notice that I can go to the orientation.  

May 2010 - Orientation led by Dr. Hahn  (good and smart doctor and took my pal with me who has no weight issues and was able to invite someone into this process with me).   

July 2010 - 1st appointment with Dr. Chu.  Smart lady and compliments me on my past accomplishments....losing 200 pounds TWICE through 12 step programs.  Gain them back.   She lets me know that I am so strong and can do this and am a perfect candidate.  I've never been told I'm a perfect candidate by anyone.  Felt touched by the compliment.  

At this appointment, first time blood pressure was 187/104 and I was freaked out.  I had never had high blood pressure.  Things were failing and failing fast.   

Met with nutritionist and got the 1200 calorie diet and knew I was not going to be able to do this.  I couldn't even walk around the grocery store at this point.

September 2010 - Kaiser Optifast program begins and I am grateful to be in the group and get some relief from the food.   Lose 35 pounds by October and am feeling physically incredible.

I start wearing a pedometer for the first time and am amazed by my physical ability with just a few pounds off.  

Start feeling better and not doing the Optifast perfectly and it shows in the weight loss.   

REceive note that I have gotten close enough to goal set by doctor to have psych evaluation.  FREAK OUT.  Ack, it's getting closer and I'm scared.   

Need to postpone the psych eval for a few weeks.
