2 Year Surgiversary!

Aug 18, 2010

Hello again! Some of you may remember me from my pre-op days 2 years ago. I fell off the radar when I comminted the ultimate WLS sin of getting pregnant at only 3 months post-op. Just the other day, I got an email from OH congratulating me on my 2 year surgiversary and asking me to share my experiences.

There have been a lot of ups and downs (pun intended) over the last 2 years. During my preganacy, I only gained 20 lbs and was far healthier than during my first two pregnancies (while I was morbidly obese). After he was born (1 day after my first surgiversary) I lost the baby weight quickly, but ended up stalled with 35 lbs left to lose. I started exercising five days a week and tracking every calorie I ate.

From January 3, 2010 until now, I have lost the 35 lbs and continue to workout 5 days a week to maintain and tone. My original goal weight was 115 lbs, but I now realize that is far too low. I have a great deal of muscle mass and going much lower would compromise that. I have a lot of skin that needs to be removed, but for now I do the "tuck and roll".

For those of you who are new post-ops or still waiting for surgery, I will not lie: it has not been easy. The one thing I would stress more than anything else, is that WLS is a TOOL and not an answer to all your problems. I still wrestle with sweets cravings and stress eating, but the surgery has limited the amount of damage I can do. I view food addiction just like any other addiction, except that we HAVE TO EAT while other addictive substances can be avoided all together.

The qustion that I get asked most is "Would you do it again?" ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! I am healthier now than I have ever been in my life and my fear of regaining the weight is diminishing as time goes by. I was lucky to have minimal post-op problems and no issues with nutrition or food tolerance. I take my vitamins every day and make every bite of food count. I hope to check in here more frequently and answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me!
