First Entry
Feb 09, 2009
This is my first entry. I am already well into my journey, and I wish I had done this sooner! As of January 2008 my weight was up to 291 pounds. I had a lifetime of weight loss attempts, the most recent a year or so prior. At that time I had joined WW (again) and I spent a year following the program and I only lost 17 pounds. It took a big decline in my health to make me brave enough to have the surgery (RNY.) My diabetes was out of control, although I was taking 130 units of long acting insulin as well as short acting insulin 4 times a day. I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and very severe arthritis in my back and knees. Basically, I could do nothing physical because of the pain. I decided that it was a big problem that needed a big solution, so I decided to go for it.I finally had my surgery on September 4, 2008. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to have this surgery. I believe it saved my life, and it also gave me the quality of life back. I am doing the housework, food shopping, babysitting my 4 year old granddaughter, and my husband of 39 years is thrilled to have "me" back again.
