a little over two months

Dec 05, 2009

I haven't posted much in this blog at all.  I figured I would post a little update.  I'm a little over two months out from surgery.  Here are my stats

heaviest weight     285
surgery weight       260
one month out       233
two months out      215

total weight lost        70lbs

I've been doing pretty good.  I haven't had any complications from the surgery.  I have been having some problems with my legs but everyone says its not related to the surgery.  Most days I get all my protein and almost always get my liquids.  I have cravings and sometimes I give in to them.  I'm seeing how I can eat and drink more than before, but not a whole lot more.  I can drink a lot faster now, and its nice to feel like I've gotten enough to drink.

Here are my pre surgery pictures

just starting. . .

Mar 29, 2009

It took me a long time to get up the nerve to talk to my doctor about WLS.  Before I was able to though my OB/GYN asked me about it.  Of course I have heard horror stories about people asking their doctors and being turned away, spending months fighting the insurance companies and the like.  I told her I was interested.  I went to a meeting with the doctor, nutritionist and about 15 other people who were interested in the surgery.  My insurance in Tricare Prime, and I was actually sent to speak with a doctor at the military hospital, not someone on the outside.  The major plus to this is he will only do the surgery if he truly feels you need it and are willing to put everything into it.  He has all of my records too without me having to take anything in.  I learned a lot at the meeting and I think I have picked which surgery I'm the most interested in.  They offer Laparoscopic Gastric Banding, Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy.  I'm leaning toward the Sleeve Gastrectomy right now.
