Newly Banded....

Sep 23, 2009

I had my surgery on Sept 3 2009, so I'm at three weeks post op tomorrow. Things are going well now. The liquid diet before the surgery was the hardest part so far, about four days into it I was ready to give up! I'm so lucky that I have a very supportive husband that didn't tell me one way or the other what to do, he just listened. I remained on the diet, "just incase", I still wanted to go through with it. Once I was passed the first week it got easier, but I dreaded losing my protein shakes the day before surgery...I just didn't know how I was going to get through the day without them. I was drinking 3-4 protein shakes a day and eating 1-2 cups of an awesome garden vegetable soup per day. I threw in a salad or two with spray dressing and a few cooked veggies but that was it for two weeks. I lost 17 lbs!! The day before surgery I chewed a lot of gum and drank chicken broth and a lot of water. I made it through and couldn't wait for Thursday to get here so I could have the surgery and not be hungry anymore.

Everyone at the hospital was awesome!! I got there, was taken right back, they got everything ready and I was in dreamland in no time flat. I barely had time to worry!

Upon waking I felt pain....but only at the port site...which I expected. Just not so much, maybe I don't know what pain is after all...LOL...now I do. They said press your pain management button, oh how I loved that button. My bloodpressure went low everytime I tried to get up so I was not feeling very well. I had visitors at that time but don't remember much that was going on. Once my bloodpressure was back to normal though I felt better and took my first walk around the floor. By the next morning I had circled it about 30 times....it just felt good to move, but then again I had that button to press.

My first week home was a little rough. My port site really hurt whenever I moved but I got so tired of sitting on the couch. I couldn't lie down and the first TWO weeks home I slept on our reclining couch because I just couldn't bear to lie down. Slowly though the pain went away and now I only have a twinge every now and then. I've hardly been hungry and I've been able to use a stationary bike for exercise. I get on for 25 min, 2-3 times a week at this point. I'm starting from nothing so I figure this is a good start. I'm down 24 lbs.

I've been lurking around here reading the accomplishments of various people. There are so many inspiring people on here. I can't wait until I can post some after pictures...LOL Of course I need to figure out how to get some of my now pictures on here first.  I'll have to get hubby to help me.
