Lets see...
I am 42 years old. I have been heavy most of my life with the exception of the short time between bootcamp and A-school during my short Navy career.  One wonderful thing to come out of my Navy experience was my husband who I have been married to for going on 17 years now...gosh has it been that long?  I started putting on weight again and before long the largest sized dungarees were pretty snug.  In my 5th year I was about to get discharged for my body fat, but as luck would have it I was able to take an early out.
Since then, I have steadily been getting bigger.  I have tried Weight Watchers which went out the window when we got stationed in Guam and there were no meetings (they were essential to the program).  I have tried Atkins, Body for Life, Nutrisystem, and so on and so on.
I am so ready for this surgery.  I have one daughter who is now 11 and roller coaster age.  I LOVE roller coasters!  Last time I went on one at Busch Gardens I almost had to get off because the bar would not come down.  I talked the kid who was running it to just push it down as hard as he could. Talk about embarassing!  I haven't been on one since.  I watch my husband and daughter have all the fun.
My husband, by the way, is incredibly fit.  Runs everyday and works out 6 days a week.  He has never judged me for my size and has always loved me no matter what I looked like.  He is a gem.
Don't get me started on the width of airline seats!!  I hate to fly, but this weight makes it nearly unbearable.
Ok, here comes the confession, to you my new dearest friends and partners in crime , I am at my highest weight of 290.4 right now.  I have just begun working out at the gym, and am doing pretty good, although I am so sore!  I still have to work out portion control, which my husband is helping me with, in a backhanded sort of way, "Thats more than one portion...".  I am sometimes not sure I like it, but that is his way of helping, so I guess Thank You, Hon.
Originally when I was called up for my consult with the Bariatric Clinic at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, I was told it was very risky to have the bypass done as I already had trauma to the area from a Nissen Fundoplication (GERD surgery).  I was also severely anemic at the time, so I was put on lots of iron and Vitamin D, which I am still on at this time.  It was determined that I may have had a bleed somewhere related to the original surgery to my stomach, and I had to have an endoscopy/colonoscopy.  The only thing discovered there was that my Nissen had slipped, which means I am can have the surgery, if I want it, as it needs to be fixed.  Dr. Mann says he would rather do the bypass or gastrectomy, whichever seems less complicated when he gets in there, than to redo the Nissen.  To that I say Whoo Hoo!!!  I am not taking the risk lightly, I am trying my best to get in better shape so that I can be ready when the time comes.
I have a goal weight of 150, which actually may be too low as I am 5' 10", but that is what I would love to be at.  So that would be 140lbs to lose.  I don't know what the Dr. thinks my goal should be but that is mine anyway.
Well...that is me.  I will update this as things progress.  May I just say, "You guys rock!!" I love this message board and can't "weight" to get on the losers bench next to you all!!
