1 week Post op

Feb 08, 2012

Ok so this is my first blog so not really sure what to write. First off the surgery...was actually a really good experience. I never had a lot of pain or nausea with my surgery. The first day post op was the worst, I had to go for my xray and it showed I had some rather large clots in my new pouch (uncommon), so I had to drink a nasty concoction that broke the clots up. This caused bloody stools for about a week! Other than that set back the recovery has been awesome. By about day 4 I was off of all my pain meds and I had only taken one nausea pill since home. My left side was and is the most tender, I guess that is where the biggest part of the surgery is done. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days which was pretty uneventful, I was glad to come home. However I have two little ones under the age of two, so it kills me not to pick them up. I wear my abdominal binder every day and it really helps keep everything tight and secure. With my surgery I was sent home with some sutures and a drain. Very easy and managable. The hardest part for me was getting in enough liquids this first week. I was feeling a litle dehydrated so I went into my doctor's office for some iv fluids, then I felt much better. Just a total shock to an obese persons body, llittle fluid and barely any calories.

Today was my 1 week visit. My doctor removed the steri strips over the incision and removed the stiches and drain. All was good except for the drain, I have to be honest, it hurt like the dickins!! However the pain was short lived! Incisions were healing perfectly. I have lost a total of 17# in one week and 24# since the start of my program. I am very happy. I also just switched from the clear liquids to the full liquids, so  so much better. You can not believe how much better you start to feel once you are eating.
