Small victory

Aug 30, 2012

Hello all, this is my first post so be gentle ;)  I have been sitting on the sidelines, congratulations to all that have had WLS.  I am 33 years old and among a few other ailments I found out that I have sleep apnea.  In November 2011, my sleep specialist strongly recommended that I look into gastric bypass surgery.  Not only do I meet the current health criteria for the procedure in this province, he also stated that it would be the end of my sleep apnea.  Off to the family Dr I go... Only to be told that he doesn't feel that I need WLS, "I'm just not trying hard enough".  Feeling deflated and frustrated, I carried on, thinking that I was the crazy one and beating myself up for not trying harder.  Well damn it, I have tried and Its time to stand up for myself.  I have been well over 200 lbs since I was 12, I have been on every diet, potion, pill or gimmick I could get my hands on.  I had medically supervised weight loss, bone density and muscle mass tests, the craziness we put ourselves through.  I have come to accept myself as a big girl and learned to live with it.  I am generally healthy, I get around, but time is ticking away.  I am not looking forward to a healthy future if I don't do something soon. My health is gradually going down hill, the push is on.  I contacted the receptionist at my Dr's office and explained to her what I was looking for.  She called me back today to tell me that she registered with the Ontario Bariactric Network.  Just need my referral package to come and pay the Dr for the referral and fingers crossed.  Its only taken 9 months and I had to bypass my Dr and go through the receptionist, but hey, its still a small victory for me :)
