11 days Post-Op

Jan 02, 2010

Today is my 11th day post-op and I'm feeling like a new woman a bit more every day!  I am finally able to eat some REAL food and not trying to force myself to drink those disgusting shakes.  Mr. Dr & NUT told me to advance a bit on my food because I can't get in the shakes.  I got to have scrambled eggs and pureed turkey sausage.  OMG that was freakin' incredible!

At first, I felt a little "weird" after surgery.  I can't quite put my finger on it.  I never felt like "what have I done?"  But I did kinda feel like "things will never be the same again."  But my meds were all screwed up too, so that may be what I was going through.  I was disappointed that I wasn't feeling very good.  I'd heard of people that were back to work after a week and I was SO far from it, that I was disappointed.  Now I'm feeling so much better and know that (if I could get dress pants back on) that I'd be okay to go back to work in a couple more days.  So I'm feeling much better about that now.

The surgery went very well.  No complications.  My dr did not do the swallow study on me before he advanced me to liquids.  He did on my roommate though who is in my class at the clinic.  I also had a reaction to the meds in the pain pump.  Got the itchy crawlys and ended up digging up my leg because it itched so bad.  I also had a reaction to the tubing for the air, but that could be related to my latex allergy.

All-in-all, I'm still very glad I did this.  I've lost a little weight and my first post-op class went great.  2 of the 3 other people in my "group" were there, so got to see how they are doing.  It'll be interesting to watch what happens over the next 3 weeks with my class.
