Time for another surgery

Apr 27, 2012

well after a very hectic, physical and emotionally destructive year, it is time for another surgery. Due to the complications of my lap-band, the eventual removal of most of stomach and finally a gastric sleeve to repair all the damage, I need to have an abdominoplasty. The skin is sagging on my stomach so much that i have rashes and yeast infections occuring on a weekly basis under the sagging skin. However, the current downfall is that my insurance will not pay for the surgery because it is considered "aesthetic" although the doctor has proved proof of the medical issues. SOOO I now have to pay $5000 to have the surgery done. Boy is it going to be awhile before the surgery happens. Hate having to deal with the constant rashes and disgusting yeast infections. Anti-bacterial soap and cornstarch work enough for it to not be too bad but its bad enough for me.

Slowly healing

Jan 22, 2012

well after going thru a horrendous 2011, I am slowly on the mend. I have lost a total of 150 lbs from my original weightloss surgery but 60 lbs of it was due to a life threatening  result of the lap-band. The band eroded causing stomach necropsy. I was in a coma for 3 weeks from blood poisoning that lasted a good 8 months. Doctors finally cleared me of that in October 2011. The blood poisoning and side effects of the stomach necropsy also caused spinal menginitis and a double herniation of the L5, L4, and S1 in August 2011 of which had to be repaired. My back is still in alot of pain and was told last week more than likely within the year I will have to have a 3 level spinal fusion.

All in all, I am glad I've lost alot of weight and can spend more time with my kids and family although I can't do much.

Thanks to a wonderful set of doctors in Ft Myers, Florida especially Dr. Moses Shieh. He literally saved my life!!! I would recommend him to anyone that is within reach of Ft Myers. Here is his website---

Emergency Surgery

Apr 13, 2011

Well....the worst way to reach your goal---your stomach turns in on itself and up thru the lapband then partially dies. YUP that was me in February 2011. I had been sick for about a week and not able to hold anything down including sips of water. Went to the ER and was admitted..had to have an emergency gastrectomy removing 75% of my stomach and have my band removed. i now have a gastric sleeve. Overall, spent 6 weeks in the hospital recovering and lost 30 lbs so I'm down below my goal of 200 and am currently at 175 today (april 13, 2011).

So long story short if i knew about this complication before the surgery, i don't think i would have had it done.

I'm sooo close to my goal

Apr 20, 2010

I am sooo close to my original goal that I might have to revise it!!! I am down to 213 and my original goal was 200. I am going to revise it as soon as i hit that orignal goal..another month and I should be there.
Over the past few weeks, ive been going thru clothes left and right and currently have 2 large garbage bags full of them that don't fit!!! HOW GREAT IS THAT!!!

i'm going to send them north with my parents for my sister who is also large.
I had such a huge smile on my face a few days ago because my dad told me he is soo proud of my weightloss and how he can really see it in my face.
It is soo hard to explain that growing up, i lived in the traditional Irish family that included big meals every day and everyone was overweight from slightly to grossly obese. I always figured I would be large like that for the rest of my life. I am soo glad that I finally made the choice to get healthier and live longer.
Good luck to everyone

Weightloss

Jan 20, 2010

when i started this journey I was a good 305 and at 5 ft 7 inches.. my BMI was 45 I think. On February 16, 2009 i had my surgery. After my surgery I bought a scale for the FIRST time in over 10yrs and it has a weight tracker/ fat content/ water content on it. Well let me tell you I was scared to death of stepping on that thing!! after a week or so, i dared.. and holy cow..i had already started to lose the weight. Now I weigh myself everyday and yes there are days that I remain the same for 4-5 days then I start going down again.
Well tonite I decided to check my BMI which I hadn't done since June 2009 because it was sooo depressing. Well. it is now 35.7 and I weightless than I did before I got pregnant with my son 12 years ago!!! I have tears in my eyes just seeing that BMI because it means that I am doing it and sticking to my plan to get healthier!!!
Thank you to everyone who was there to support me!!!
