I can't complain.

2 months and no loss. I guess it's ok since I lost 60 pounds I wouldn't have otherwise :)

6 Months Post-Op Checkup

Jul 24, 2008

I got bloodwork done of course, everything is fine. B12 and Iron look great. They took more blood though to check my thyroid because I have been feeling sort of run down and crabby.

Slowly but surely...

Jul 21, 2008

I think I've gotten things started again. I know it's been a while but teh scale is budging again. Slowly but surely, I'm on the downward slope! I am finally down to 205 so ONEderland is SO CLOSE!!! This has been frustrating but I guess it's ok. I feel great and I'm looking pretty good if I do say so myself :) I have my 6 month Doctor appointment on the 23rd which is day after tomorrow. I hate going to the Dr but I do what I have to do for the sake of my health. I'll be sure to update and let y'all know how it goes...Later!

Plan of Attack : Shake it up!!

Jul 07, 2008

I am going to do a liquid diet for 3 days then I am going to do high protein with little to no carbs and low fat. Next, I plan to add back very slowly a few carbs. Hopefully this will break my plateau. I will be documenting my food and progress on www.fitday.com I will also be changing up my exercise routine. I will be doing pilates and belly dancing instead of classical stretch and mini-stepper (been doing THAT routine for 5 months at least!).
I will let you know how everything goes! Mom says I need to "shake things up"...I think she's right!

I think I'm stuck!

Jul 05, 2008

I knew I was losing alot slower than other people but this is getting a little silly! More than a month with only a 3 pound loss?!? Well, I'm doing better than if I didn't have surgery so I guess it's ok. I am still committed to a healthy diet and daily exercise. This plateau WILL break! It's got to. No one can eat 600-800 calories a day and not lose weight. I will WIN!!! HOORAH!!!!!

So close!!!

May 22, 2008

This morning I weighed in at 210! I'm so close to ONEderland, I can taste it and it's better than icecream, I tell ya! So, I plan to keep on keepin' on. Exercise, conscious eating, healthy food, supplements, hydration.
I am starting to notice people treating me a little differently. I don't know if it's my newfound confidence or what but I like it!
Have I mentioned my obsession with TLCs What not to Wear? Well, I am so afraid of losing this weight and then dressing like a dork. I refuse to let that happen! I don't want to be the "after" who's wearing leather pants, spray-on tan and a halter top. LOL No offense intended. If that look is your aim, go for it! We all need to follow our bliss, right? As for me, I want to look my age and not embarass my kids. I'm still in my 20s and have spent all my adult life dressing in jeans, t-shirts and crocs. I want to be armed with the knowledge of what looks attractive and appropriate for my age and body type. Anyone else obsessing about this?

Magnesium and Constipation

May 16, 2008

I've been taking a 250 mg magnesium morning and evening with my other meds. I really think it's helping!

"A deficiency of the mineral magnesium may contribute to constipation. Magnesium is found naturally in foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains and in supplements.

Magnesium is needed for normal muscle function, including intestinal muscles. One recent study examined the intake of magnesium with constipation in 3835 women. Low magnesium intake was associated with constipation."

Canoeing

May 11, 2008

Yesterday I went canoeing for the first time! I was the lightest person so I got to sit in front :) I am finally at the Half century mark and what a way to celebrate! I had a wonderful time. We fell in twice (NOT my fault!!!) which was no big deal. I've been working out so walking against the current to get to shore was no biggie. Even carrying 2 kids in chest high water was no problem. Before I would have been really struggling.
My anemia was resolved with the stuff I've been doing. See the previous plan for my action plan. Now my only complaint is constipation. I've heard magnesium can really help so I'm going to try that. I'll let y'all know how it goes :) Happy Mothers Day!

3 months 3 weeks

Apr 25, 2008

I've felt a bit run down, weak and fatigued and all that. It seems I've become a little anemic! If you feel just as tired when you get up as when you went to sleep, you have light colored gums and when you pull your eyelids down, it's very light, you might be anemic. Here's my plan of action to fight anemia...

~no coffee - I love decaf and love to have it any time of the day to keep me hydrated. Unfortunately, the tanins interfere with iron absorption.

~ I plan to take my iron and multi-vit with a vitamin c tablet first thing in the am on an empty stomach because this increases absorption.

~ break out the iron skillet - cooking in an iron skillet increases iron in non-heme (non meat) foods.

~ buy slow FE because it is released slowly, it doesn't just dump a big glob of iron into your system all at once and is more easily absorbed that way.

~ try not to stress about this! I've heard about iron shots and needles freak me out! I wasn't afraid of surgery as much as I was getting the IV...yes...my phobia is that bad.

It's not severe or anything but anemia should be taken seriously. Health is my #1 goal! Wish me luck, y'all!

3 Months and 2 Weeks

Apr 19, 2008

Hey! Sorry I forgot to post on Thursday. With a deployed husband and all kinds of every-day chaos around here, I'm just SO busy! I haven't lost anything since last week but it's ok. I did learn a couple new recipes on my own though...

Tuna Salad on Crispbread
1 packet Individual sized Tuna in Water
1 tbsp Lite mayo
a spritz of lemon juice 1/2 tsp or thereabouts

Mix and spread on 2 WASA Lite Rye Crispbreads.

Lots of protein and fiber in this one!

Also I have had a weakness for McDonalds Filet O Fish sandwiches since I was little. There's something about McDonalds tartar sauce. Yes, I know I'm weird for being crazy about fish sandwiches and tartar sauce. Now that I've had GBS, I guess there's no reason for McDs to sell them anymore...LOL

Panko Crusted Flounder with Tartar Sauce

1 flounder filet (I buy them from SAMs Club individually frozen in packets.)

Japanese Breadcrumbs (panko)

Olive Oil PAM

Salt

Pepper

For the Sauce

1 tbsp Lite Mayo

1/2 tbsp Pickle relish

Preheat oven to 350. Spray a small baking dish with pam and place fish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then litghtly with the panko. Spray the panko a little to help the crumbs get brown in the oven. Bake about 10 minutes or until fish flakes easily. Mix the Lite Mayo and Pickle Relish.

Eat your fish with your tartar sauce and voila! That ought to give your filet-o-fish craving a beatdown. The Panko breadcrumbs are extremely light and crispy white bread crumbs. They don't have any weird flavor or anything. They are very plain. The appeal is they are very very crunchy. If you miss fried foods, panko can give you crunch without the grease. They have them at wal-mart with the asian foods.
