24 months Post-Op

Oct 18, 2008

It's been 24 months and here's a short update:

I'm holding at 192 to 197 pounds...generally at around 195 most of the time.  I am maintaining the weight without serious effort at this point.  I'm sure I could be lighter with effort, but I'm happy where I am.  I am lighter than I was in High School!

Most of my co-morbidities have dissappeared and have been gone essentially since the day after surgery.

Type II Diabetes:  GONE

Hypertension:  GONE

High Cholesterol:  GONE

Obstructive Sleep Apnea:
GONE (Actually...this one went away after about 50 lbs of weight loss)

I feel good physically and I've been able to do things I've wanted to do for years.  I have become a Middle School/High School football and Lacrosse referee and am physically able to do 6 to 8 games each week without serious effort.

Clothes are amazingly easy to buy now.  I'm down from a size 44/46 waist pants to a size 36.  I'm now able to buy clothes "off the rack" and can select them by size without having to try things on over and over due to different sizing by the manufacturers.  Not only that, the selection of clothing at L/XL is HUGE compared to 3XL.

In short, I'm very happy with my outcome.  For those committed to permanent change that don't need malabsorption or want the adjustment issues that come with the band, vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) is a very good surgery.
