Better today

May 07, 2011

Surgery went well Wednesday.  Felt surprisingly pretty okay Thurday and up quite a bit while still in hospital. Friday the dreaded day 2...ugh gas pains in my tummy made me miserable.  Could not walk, sip. sit, or lie down for any long period before up pacing again.  Finally, the secret weapon...Gas x.  My husband found Gas x thin strips xtra strengh.  They melt on your tongue, taste like peppermint, and really helped move the  trapped gas along through the evening.  I spent many times on the toilet, just sitting.  But today feel much better.  I have spent a good deal of the day up and even went walking with my family in a local street festival for about 2-3 hours.  Walking, sipping, and walking sipping and rest.  It really has been a world of difference since yesterday.  Actually other than sore, do not feel too bad today.  Working on increasing fluids.  Have been taking pretty well close to 24-40oz/day since yesterday.  I do not tolerate cold drink.  Room temperature and warm like tea, broth ect. are fine.  I can however do popcicles without problem.  Go figure?? Tomorrow is day 4 and steadily on my way towards full liquids and follow up with surgeon next Tuesday. Was a total of 21lbs down from preop diet weight(5lbs down from preop visit Monday to surgery date Wednesday).  Completely off my diabetic med and 1/2 daily dose of Bp meds just as a precaution.  My BP has been really good through and since surgery as has my sugars.  Yeah..victory is on its way!!.

woohoo my Big day has arrived

May 04, 2011

Today at 4pm I will be entering the hospital where at 6pm I will go to sleep and wake up ready to start my new life journey to health, better self esteem, energy, and my new sleeve.   Only thing I will be losing at this point is over half of my stomach and eventually this weight that has created an isolation barrier between me, life, and the things I want and hope to do.  I want to be able to jump, play, sing, climb, love, feel loved, and certainly love myself and treat it with a new respect.  Bye bye diabetic med and BP med....HELLO losing bench and my new best buddy (my Sleeve)  Will update when able!!  Good luck to all the other sleever out their who have just met or are just now approaching their big day.

the day before my "big day" to my journey to become smaller

May 02, 2011

okay, it is official...my last full day with my old stomach.  Parting is such sweet sorrow,   NOT!!!!  I am so extremely excited I cannot wait for tomorrow.  I feel like a little kid on Christmas eve who cannot wait for Santa.  Unfortunately my surgery was rescheduled last week from 2pm to 6pm, yeah I know weird time huh.  The surgeon said it was based on scheduling for the OR and his assistant's availability.  So for now I still drink my protein shakes until around 12noon then to all clears.  My pleasure this evening of the lovely laxative dose ugh.  I can have sips of clears up until 6am then it's Nothing by mouth till after surgery when the time to test my new stomach begins.  Wish me luck!!!  And good luck to any of you preparing for your surgery or just reading this as info.  I am sure to begin having the nerves kick in by tomorrow, but for now, I cannot wait!!!!!

Preop at surgeon's and hospital

May 02, 2011

Well, went for all my preop appointments yesterday 5/2/11.  Surgeon office then hospital.  All was just fine and everything set in place for my big day.  One thing quite unsettling did occur and let me just explain in case anyone reads this and something similar happen to you.  The LAST thing you ever want to do when someone has gone through all the appointments, the dreaded insurance review and the wonderful surprise of a first time approval is to tell them at the hospital for their preop that they have up front payments to be made to the hospital as far as copays, coinsurance, deductibles ect.   Okay I understand the payment deal, but when you have approval for Carecredit to finance your entire out of pocket fees to make your dream come true, you pay your surgeon fees up front with the carecredit card then go to the hospital and during preregistration are told  " we do not accept this type of payment" ...MY HEART SANK.  I HONESTLY THOUGHT I WOULD PUKE.  I tried to keep it together but the tears did start rolling.  Thank God my husband was there to keep me in check.  In the end we went to patient financial services and were basically told that the surgeon's office with whom the carecredit line was originally processed should have told us up front that the hospital will not accept the carecredit plan and other arrangments for that financial portion would need to be made.  The lady at the finance office through the hospital did allow us to be set up on a hospital payment plan so the surgery would still be scheduled without any problems

Again, just thought Iwould share this.  At my most excited point when everything was actually coming to be a reality, something that simple could easily have been a deal closer.  I for one am just thankful for customer advocates at the hospital and again give my upmost thanks once again to God for letting my dream become one step closer to  a reality!!
