We acutally had surgery.

Dec 17, 2011

My husband and I are morbidly obese and have been for our entire relationship (15 yrs, 10 married). We began contemplating surgery over three years ago and actually started the process with a doctor twice before. In May of 2011, my Mother passed away at age 61 due to diabetic complications. This scared me into action. She had a stroke in October of 2010 and then worsened over the following months.Suffice it to say, it was not pretty. We had some bad experiences with the hospital where we had 9originally began the process so, began looking for a new hospital. We found Barix Clinic.

We both had at one point been well over 500 lbs. I had actually reached 570 at one point over the past few years.
The only weight related illness I had was sleep apnea but, my mobility was limited. I have managed, in spite of my weight, to be rather successful in my career but, my husband has been unemployed for almost five years.

Due to my weight. my surgeon felt the VSG would be safest. By the time I had surgery on 11/28/2011, I was 470. After all of the fluids and air from the surgery I was 480.6.  He had RNY on 10/31/2011.

It's been rough and I was very depressed for the first week or so but am doing better now. I also had major oral surgery a weeks after the VSG so, I was a mess, really.

We are going to be a whole new couple when this is over. It is very exciting and scary but. I am sure the good will outweigh the bad (no pun intended).  So, here we go.....
