Surgery story :)

Sep 18, 2011

I had my surgery on 8-18. I had to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. and my surgery was at 8 a.m. My husband and I got there early. We checked in, they had me change into a gown and put me in a room. They came in and checked my blood sugar and blood pressure, and then the nurse anesthesist came and introduced herself, and calmed me down a little. I started to get nervous in that room. One of my best friends, Kristin, surprised me and came to the hospital to be with me for the day. She has the lap band as well, so it was good to have her there. We hung out in the room until it was time to go to the surgery bay. Then I started to cry a little. I was scared. When we got in there they started my IV and my parents finally made it to the hospital. They came in and my Dad was upset, I could tell. So I tried to act like I wasnt scared. It was really hot in there, and I felt really uncomfortable. I was dying of thirst too. The Doc came in about 8:15 and he okayed the anti-anxiety medication I was waiting on. The nurse said she was giving me some "I dont give a shit meds" and thats the last I remember.... And I woke up. Kinda. I was not all the way awake. It hurt, and I could hear them talking about my blood pressure. It was really high, and the morphine wasnt working. The nurse told me she was giving me something stronger than morphine and I was in and out of it. My parents came back in, and Brandon and Kristin came in and I was so groggy. I couldnt wake up. They put me back in the first room and I was able to have some Gatorade. Thank God. After a couple hours I was told I could get up and try to pee so I could leave. I was still out of it. I got to the toilet and it was the weirdest experience.... I had to pee but I couldnt. I was getting so frustrated. Finally I did, and we were discharged. We went straight home and Kristin picked up my pain medicine. I took it and went to sleep. Kristin and Brandon got a pizza and I stayed asleep. Hahaha, I passed up pizza?!?!?!?
The next couple days I took the meds every 4 hours and pretty much stayed alseep. It was nice, lol. I experienced some trapped air pain in my left side which was miserable, and nothing took it away but the pain medicine. It finally dissapated after about a week. It was miserable. I had my two week post-op and they said I could go back to work! Dang it! So I returned to work the following Monday and here I am 1 month p/o and waiting on my first band fill so I can start losing weight. I have lost 13lbs this month, and I cannot wait to lose more. I wont lie, I am a little disappointed in my loss so far. I feel like it is not enough. But my band is not tight, so these past 2 weeks have been a struggle. I am hungry. I cant wait to have it tight so I can get this show on the road. I have been exersizing since last week. I will be glad when I start to enjoy that too.
I will update more soon. Thanks for reading.
