Hi everyone! March 24 marked 1 year since my gastric bypass surgery. I am grateful every day for this surgery, and the new outlook that I have on life. I was 245 lbs before surgery; an "out of control" diabetic and borderline hypertensive who felt like "crap" most of the time. I am 135 lbs now, with normal blood sugars and normal blood pressure. I have energy again, and wake up feeling great every day. This surgery has been a God send. I am healthy physically, and my self confidence and self-esteem is so much better. Thank God for surgeons like Dr. Schroder, who truly care about helping obese patients have a better life. He gave me the tool that I needed to finally get the weight off that I struggled to lose for years.

Hey Traci - I got your email a few weeks ago and am just now writing back - I'm sorry. I just read your profile and your doing great! I really need to update mine. I had my 9 month checkup and I've lost 110 total. I'm now in a size 8 - 10. I'm still seeing Dr. Saunders for eating behavior issues which has REALLY helped. I feel so much better now. My husband moved out in October. The kids and I are adjusting - it's for the better. I've actually been out on a couple of dates - some of these guys would have been completely OUT OF MY LEAGUE when I was 275lbs - but not now - I can afford to be picky! : ) I'm going to wait until next year for plastic surgery - I want my boobs back. I've gone from a 44 c/d to a 36 b - it's really sad. It's like someone has stapled a pair of bloodhound ears to my chest. Oh well! I'm having surgery at Henrico Doctors on 12/30. I'm finally going to have my bladder tacked back up where it belongs (a little present from having my 2 year old at age 27) and my tubes tied. The nurse who I talked to at the hospital (during my bloodwork) said that I'm also having the "born again virgin procedure". YES, she actually said that - hey, after two kids I guess I need a bit of an overhaul 'down there' : ) I'm so thankful for this surgery. Isn't Dr. Schroder the best? OK - gotta run. Take care! Julie

Hey Traci! I just read your profile, you're doing GREAT! I'm right behind ya girl! I'm down almost 70 pounds. I'm in a baggy 16 and getting ready to slide into 14! I stopped off at a Goodwill store and picked up a cute pair of shorts with a skirt flap on it...size 13/14. I can get them up and ALMOST snap up the front...I figure a couple more weeks and I'll be wearing them! I'm still seeing a behavior modification therapist - I see her once every 2 - 3 weeks (just to check in). She's starting up a new support group, which I'm going to join. I haven't made it to St Mary's support group - it's too late and it takes me 45 minutes to get home. I haven't tried anything sugar...I'm too scared to. Take care! Julie (aka Jillian) : )

Hi everybody! It has been a while since I have updated. I am 2 months post op. My weight loss is 51 lbs, and I have gone from a size 24 to a size 18; from 245 lbs to 194 lbs. My blood sugars are normal-no medications. I have joined a fitness center, where I am enjoying water aerobics 3 times a week, take yoga once per week, and I am walking regularly. I had not exercised in years...but, now I like it! Now I actually feel like exercising. I am so happy that I finally decided to have this surgery. I don't have a single moment of regret...only joy and gratitude that I did it. I feel SO MUCH BETTER, both physically and emotionally. Best wishes to everyone, and God bless. -Traci

Hey there! Yes, I'm alive and well. Finally! I just read your profile. I had the SAME problem with Dr. Schroder's office. Two Saturdays ago, I was SO sick...I just knew I had a blood clot or was dying. I called the office and the doctor on call never called me back. My husband took me to the hospital and I ended up staying for two nights with pneumonia. I saw Dr. Schroder this past Wednesday and told him about it. Maybe you should do the same? ANYWAY! Now that I'm not sick, things are looking up. I'm able to eat fish and some deli meats which really helps. Like you, I'm going through a "mind eating" thing. I need to start behavior mod therapy. I've lost 28.4 pounds which really feels great. For some reason when I send emails directly to you, you don't get them. I'm glad to hear your doing so great! I haven't attended a support meeting at St. Mary's yet...have you gone yet? Maybe we can meet at one? (we can marvel at how great we both look!). OH! The night I went to visit you, I had a job interview that day...anyway, I got the job! I now work at Interbake Foods! YES, the company that makes GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!! How freaky is that!?!?! : ) J

I am 2 weeks post-op (Lap-RNY), and I am very grateful that everything has gone so well. In fact, I was feeling so good, that I pulled a muscle, and was laid up a couple of days with that! I am particularly thankful that I feel so great, because I took time off without pay for this surgery...and I will be returning to work part-time the end of this week. I hope to return, full-time next week. I go for my 2 week follow-up today, and can't wait to see what the doctor's scales say...mine say a weight loss of 25 pounds. I have had no bad side effects or complications at all. I started counseling yesterday, for behavior modification; and I am looking forward to each new day. I am thankful to God for this surgery, and my health; and I am thankful for this supportive website.
