6/04/10

Hello to everyone. Just wanted to come on and give an update.I NEVER thought that I would be faced with having a REVISION.
MY PCP does not think this RNY worked because duh.. i have gained a lot of weight last 6 yrs.
I have developed high blood pressure, sleep apnea, insulin pump dependent diabetes along with other conditions, since gaining the weight back. All these were gone after the RNY and before my weight gain.
I failed to remember that this was a tool to be used and not a cure for my emotional eating.
This is the biggest thing is going through therapy, psych. MD and antidepressants,I have learned to control the emotional eating issue, which is a huge issue.

I have had several personal changes in my life as well. I am the Mom of 2 children, ages 15 and 17
One  of my children has developmental delays, my 15 yr old is fighting brain cancer, for going into 2 yrs now.
They are adopted so I know God picked mine just for me!!

I saw Dr. Boyce and  he said, I qualify for the BPD/DS and revision of gastric bypass(RNY in2005). I am excited but my insurance requires 6mo doctor supervised diet with loss of 10% of my body weight  prior to surgery
. I am going to get through these next 6 mo. I will begin the weight loss 6 mo. beginning 7/1/10. I have to get cardio clearance, letter of med. necessity from PCP etc. I am going to dig my shoes in and make this a lasting journey.. it is only 2nd WLS chance I will ever have. I want to be healthy and be a good, active Mom to my children.

Well,I am 3 wks into this 6 month diet and I have lost 18 lbs. so far.
I have obtained letter of medical necessity from my PCP.I have an apt.on 7/15/10 for cardiac clearance. I have been trying different protein shakes and they all taste nasty to me. Even  the  ones I used after my RNY make me want to gag.One of my older sisters is my biggest support systems,She is still on fence re:BPD/DS,since it is such a major surgery. I feel she will support me,closer to time for surgery.SO IF ANYONE HAS AN PROTEIN SHAKE IDEAS FOR ME,JUST LET ME KNOW.PLEASE

I had my consult with the cardiologist last week and I go next week to have their required blood work drawn and to have an ECHO. Hopefully, all will come back good and I will get the cardiac clearance I need. I also plan to attend 2 support group meetings this coming month. I have lost 4 more lbs.A total of 22 so far and month 2 of 6 month required diet.I see my PCP 8/3/10.The DS board here on OH, has been so informative. I have been reading and researching....but I have yet to come out of lurkdom..lol. Actually, I was waiting until I figure out how to put up an avatar!

8/13/10

I had ECHO but they were not able to complete because my blood pressure jumped up really high. That Dopamine they use to stress my heart..it sure kicked my butt. Now I am worrying about not getting cardiac clearance . I see cardiologist 8/24/10. Maybe, I'll know more then.

8/25/10

I saw Dr Gentry the cardiologist yesterday. He stated that all my lipid profile was excellent. My LDH(bad) chol.was 79 and the total chol.level was 115. Anyway, he explained with the stress ECHO that they were able to stress my heart by 60% without any actual EKG changes, which he said was really quite good for me and my cardiac background. So he gave me clearance with mild cardiac risk. I am so relieved to not have to go through any additional testing.I need to attend a group meeting and then I just need to wait and continue on 6 mo. diet. Support group meetings are very important to attend and I will get there but with no spouse and teen girls,it is hard to be able to leave them that long at night ,on a school night. But I will figure something out because I plan to attend  meetings from here on out. I think the support is a huge part of success,

I saw my PCP today. He is pleased with my wt loss results thus far. This is month 3 of 6 required per insurance.I did have my B12,iron and vit D levels along with others ordered per my psychiatrist. I am so grateful for my having insurance and a great PCP but the waiting is a pain is the hinny!

10/5/10

I saw PCP yesterday for visit 4 of 6. I am actually starting to begin to get excited. He instructed me to increase Vit D as level was low.All other labs were great. I am a little stressed due to several family issues.Stuff happens! My sister is finally on board and cheering me on..
November and December and then my medically supervised diet is over...yeah!

12/12/10

I have finally completed all my required tests and my medical records from MD office(PCP) have all been submitted to Dr.Boyce office. Now I have to play the hurry up and wait game but I really do not mind. The holiday season helps, there is always so much to do. I have to wait for my primary insurance to deny it-BC/BS and then Medicare approves it. It is snowing and the children are eager to hear those 2 little words---school closed! I love the sn
ow myself.

I HAVE BEEN APPROVED!! I HAVE A SURGERY DATE FOR 1/25/11! Just a little over a month away. My head is still reeling from the fact that I got a date and that I am actually approved so fast. God is good!

1/12/11

I went in today for my final preop visit. I then went to hospital and did all the pre-adm. stuff:blood drawn (10 vials),EKG.I have been on the liquid diet for a week and have lost 9lbs.I am glad because I sure did dread the preop required liquid diet. Liquid diet is also required for 4 weeks post-op. I was given a goal weight of 170 pounds. My goal is -healthy! I don't have  any number in mind. I just want to get my health back and be able to things with my children.

1/25/11
My surgery day!!! I am officially switched! The surgery it's self went really well, for it to be a revision and other things done during surgery

1/31/11

I was released from hospital today. I had a few minor problems. I had bleeding from JP drain and had to receive 2 units of blood,a few bags of Iron IV. I came home with my PICC line in my right arm,in case I need it for dehydration or more iron infusions.I feel better day by day. I am slowly getting my energy back. I am getting all my fluids in,drinking 3-4 shakes per day and taking the "gag me a spoon" dry vitamins 3 times a day, most days. Some days I can only get 2 in.

To anyone on the fence regarding Dr Boyce for a revision,I say ,he is the best!!
