Well, I had my DS surgery on September 18 and all went well, I was discharged on Sept 21 and on Sept 22, started having chills and sweats at the same time. I was readmitted but they really couldn't find out what my problem was. I did receive a pint of blood and IV fluids because I was slightly anemic. Dr. Peters didn't feel that it was surgically related, so I had a cardiac consult. No problems there but the chills and sweats were unbearable.
Fortunately, I had a great nite nurse at CMC (thanks Laura) who explained about homeostasis in my body and all the nervous systems getting out of whack. On the 2nd day of readmission, the PCP asked if I felt nervous and wanted a xanax. I said no, because I knew this wasn't nerves, but then I remembered what Laura said about my nervous system so I agreed/
Within 10 minutes, the chills and sweats had stopped and I really felt like a new person again. It was really miraculous. I took the xanax for 2 more days and haven't needed it since. It was amazing that my system had been so impacted by this surgery, that it spent 2 whole days shaking and sweating. I'm so grateful to the pcp for thinking of this and to Laura my nurse, for painting me a picture of what my body was going through. I had my staples out yesterday and have lost 13 lbs at 10 days out.
