Hello all! My name is Tiffany and I am a 33 year old from South Jersey. I have been overweight since about the age of 8. I never really felt out of place regarding my weight until I was an adult. Although I'd always been heavy, after having children my body really took a beating. I started hearing about bariatric surgery about 8 years ago and was immediately interested. I asked my physician at the time about it and he literally laughed in my face and said no way; I was about 24 years old and 230 lbs. I was so discouraged that I totally stopped even thinking about it. I had only know one person who had any type of bariatric surgery so didnt have anyone to talk to about it; until I met my current fiance. His sister had gastric bypass a couple years prior and he was considering having the surgery as well. I felt as though it was time to start looking into it again. I asked my doctor about it (NOT the same dr as before) and he referred me to my surgeon, Dr. Iqbal. It was all quite simple from there. I had started my journey as a lap band patient but after attending several support group meeting and hearing about the sleeve, I began doing research on it and ultimately thought it would be a better fit sor me. I discussed it with my surgeon and he agreed. I was sleeved on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
