My name is Veronica and I am currently 25 years old from New Jersey. I have been dealing with being overweight since high school- but it wasn't until college when I experienced rapid weight gain for no reason. After seeing countless specialists and having endless blood work and diagnostic tests performed, I couldn't receive an explanation for the weight gain and my inability to loose any of the weight. I found my way to a specialist from a weight loss clinic who provided me with several different forms of medication and injections. After receiving treatment for over 2 years and continuing to gain weight, I learned about my options for bariatric surgery. After meeting with several surgeons and doing endless research, I decided on the type of surgery I could like to have done.

After talking to other patients, I meet with Dr. Schmidt in Paramus New Jersey and decided he was the right fit for me. My research included the type of surgery I would qualify for and my options in regards to what my surgery would cover. It was a difficult and frustrating process to have my surgery approve my surgery since I had a borderline BMI until right before my surgery. The staff members at Dr. Schmidt's office were wonderful and worked with me through every step of this process to help it be a smooth transition to be approved. They also provided endless education about what I would need to do after and how my life would change going forward. Although this process was very difficult and frustrating at times, I never gave up and eventually reached my goal of having the surgery performed in the beginning of June 2017. Although it has not been very long since it was performed, I already can say that I made the right decision and see how my life is changing for the better. This journey has been one of the most difficult aspects of my life, but I believe every aspect was worth the outcome of eventually reaching my goal weight and becoming the health individual I have hoped to become for years.
