I am 38 years old and live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I live with my spouse and two children, a son who is 18 and a daughter who is 16. We also have two furbabies of the feline pursuasion.
Like many other stories here I have read, I have struggled with my weight most of my life, since about the age of 8. I have tried many diets, too many to list. I have been successful a few times in losing weight - never quite reaching goal however, but not successful in keeping the weight off for any length of time.
I first looked into WLS approximately 4 years ago. It took 3 months for a phonecall, from my doctor's office advising that my initial surgeon consult had been set up for 18 months down the road. I was devastated. I decided that I had to do something in the meantime, so joined yet another diet program.
My spouse was never supportive with the idea of WLS. When the surgeon's office called to confirm the appt., it was my spouse who answered the call - long story short - I missed that appointment!! I guess you could say it knocked the goodness out of me at the time. I was going through alot of other personal issues, and simply felt sorry for myself and never pursued WLS again until now.
Lately, I have come to a point where I know I have to do this for myself, with or without anyone's support.
