4 Days Post-Op

Dec 07, 2009

I thought Saturday I was going to die. Thought I had a clot, but was only my lungs being compressed (atalectasis) due to poor pain management and not enough oxygen.

I am a new person today. Pain is minimal, and breathing well. I'm no longer asking, "what the hell did I just do to myself?!"

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Doing great so far.

Had My Surgery Thursday, 12/3

Dec 06, 2009

Surgery itself went great. I had terrible nurses in the hospital who did not respond well to my pain and breathing issues. I was discharged the very next day and continuted to have further problems. The doctor was supposed to send me home with home oxygen, but the nurse apparently "missed" the order. Needless to say, I suffered through my first night at home, and until 11 am the next morning when I went to the ER thinking I had a blood clot. In reality, it turned out my lungs were partially collapsed, due to poor pain control, causing me to be unable to take deep enough breaths.

My first 4 days post-op; I'm asking myself - what the hell did I just do to myself?

Hopefully when my lungs feel better (since pain is better managed now), I'll find the reward in doing the surgery.
