10/15/06 I can't believe it's been so long since I have written. Well, after a year and a half of this battle it looks as if I can't win. Blue Cross Blue Shield of AL will not budge and approve me. I have appealed every way until the moon turns blue! So I have changed my strategy and have seen Dr. Felix Speigel in Houston about Lap Band. My insurance does not cover this at all so I will have to be a cash patient. I feel better about the Lap because it's reversible, adjustable, and not altering my anatomy. It costs less than RNY which is a huge factor since I have to pay out of pocket. I haven't set a date yet but plan to this week. It will definitely be before Christmas. I just have to break the news to the hubby that we're going to have another payment to deal with. I just refuse to be fat anymore!!!! 12/13/06 I had my surgery on October 31 and feel wonderful! I ended up taking out a loan to pay for it but I am ok with that. I have only lost 15 pounds but that's pretty good for 6 weeks out. I had my first fill Dec. 1 and boy did it make a difference. I am not losing as fast as I thought I would but I will give it a couple more weeks and then go in for another the end of December. The recovery from surgery was less than what I anticipated and I came through with no problems. I am glad I had the surgery and now many of my friends and family members are asking about it for themselves.

I am now 18 months post op and love it! I am a bit disappinted in myself because I got within 5 pounds of my goal and began gaining. I have gained 13 pounds in the past 4 months and have not been able to take it off. I have been eating JUNK - high calorie, high fat and high sodium foods. I got back into eating the convenience foods and hate myself for it. So for any of you out there reading this, please understand that you absolutely CAN go the other way and gain it right back. It took me months to get it off and it didn't take any time at all to put it back on.
On the positive side, I am still down over 50 pounds and loving it. I haven't shopped in a plus size store in over a year and I look and feel great. Having this surgery was the best thing I could have done!
